Here's the new Mercedes CLS Shooting Brake - the first Mercedes since a long time that i really like.

But Mercedes will sell it only in Europe and Asia, not on the American market.

Are they making a mistake?

Station wagons made their way out in the 90's. I surely wouldn't buy that ugly ass thing. Specially with the wood grain trunk. JUNK!

It is a pretty ugly looking car so other than the obvious what are its selling points?

Is it just me or is Mercedes making uglier and uglier cars the past decade or so?

For me, I think they have made some of the best looking cars ever the last 5 years and also some of the worst looking cars they have ever made.

I'd rock it but that wood floor is a bit overkill. I wouldn't want to worry about scratching it every time i put anything into the boot...

I drive a CLS63 AMG. 2010 model. Before the redesign.

I hate the new body style. So there's no way I could ever digest this glorified station wagon aka "shooting brake"

I'm waiting on the CLA. That might get me to buy a new car. Otherwise it's the 2013 M5 for me.

Stationwagons are quite popular in Australia and I have to say that is one ugly car.

The cargo area is also a joke, are they kidding us with a rear door that is lucky to fit a suitcase through it?

Looks like the dodge magnum. I could be wrong but I don't think the magnum was a big seller.

I love the new M5 but I think it may be too big for my tastes... and here in the Bay Area it would get constantly nicked in tight parking lots by fuckheads who have no respect for such luxuries. I think it may be slightly out of contempt for people who own such niceties, however... I'm not sure. We've lived in Oakland for about 2 years now and our E90 335i Sedan has pretty deep scuff marks down to the bare plastic on the rear right corner and front right corner from those who apparently park with their eyes closed.

I will occasionally babysit the car when my wife goes grocery shopping just to ward off door dingers and drive-by bumper scuffers. I figure if I'm standing there it may be less likely to happen.

Anyway, it's one thing when it's a relatively inexpensive vehicle... and a completely different thing when it's a $100k piece of kit.

I'd love to own the new F30 M3. Rumored to have 450hp... and much tighter steering ratio than typical 3 series as far as I know...

Yeah... Fuck yeah. But the issue is this... The car handles like it's on rails and you can't help but plow through roundabouts and freeway onramps at the speed at which the car is perfectly capable... But your wife is a speed prude sitting in the passenger seat, and yells at you every time you jerk the car hard in one direction or another. It is VERY hard to keep the vehicle within the "realm of comfort" for your passengers when you are behind the wheel of such a beast. All you end up doing is pissing everyone off.

Or maybe I drive with a bunch of prudes...
