I want to watch a great SciFi tonight - which one
 

Seen all the famous ones so don't bother mentioning those. There must be more out there.

Outlander was much better than I thought it would be. Only had a limited run in theatres, but it has been shown a lot on Syfy recently so you may have already seen it.

I agree with newB, but Ive been nothing but disappointed in alien movies since Independance Day

is it possible for a movie to be great without being famous in the sci-fi world, i cant think of any..

Sunshine is one of my favourite movies...in all genres. I just fucking love that movie for whatever reason!

Not really SciFi but Brotherhood of the Wolf is a GREAT movie that most people aren't familiar with.

It is more of a buddy action movie set in the years prior to the French Revolution. Everyone I have recommended it to has loved it.

IF you like kind of bizarre stuff: LEXX (the movies, not the TV show). Especially liked the 3d movie (Eating Pattern) with Rutger Hauer.

I agree,epic movie with constant tension.

I also vote District 9 if you haven't seen it.

It depends on what sort of Sci Fi you like but if you like story driven stuff vs space ships, I also suggest:

I'll second Brotherhood of the Wolf. Ironically, it's one of the best looking period movies I've seen. The costuming was fucking insane, but I don't know how the CGI will hold up all these years later.

Sunshine is one of my favorites also.

Difficult question because I always have the notion everybody has heard of all these flicks, only I know not everyone has. Depends on how steeped in SF you are.

Yeah, I am a fan of that one - you really can't put it into a genre since it is basically several genres mashed into one fun flick. Part martial arts, part monster sci-fi, buddy action... and it has a Monica Bellucci nude scene... and that is worth the price of admission alone in my book.

Zardoz is one of my fave classic sci-fi.

I just watched 'sound of my voice' not too shabby at all... bit of a surprise ending...

District 9 is awesome! Seen it a couple of times.

Have to watch that one again. When i was younger i watched it close to 20 times i think :)

What didn't make sense? I loved it.

I've been watching the series Battlestar Galactica. It's not fantastic, but it's enjoyable.

I also thought prometheus was better than I expected it to be. Some parts seemed forced but I thought it was an interesting effort and addition to the aliens line.

Clever story concepts, and I liked that it did not have a happy ending.

There are too few really good science fiction movies. Most get drecked in the committee process.

So, read some of the books instead. There have been some truly great books written in the past 15 years.

I thought it was good, a lot of people that were unhappy with it had expected it to be the next Aliens movie.

I especially liked Primer. As a story its excellent and you have to pay really close attention to figure out what is going on. It's also hard to watch because it's a super low budget movie (only $8000), but really good sci-fi.
