Thoughts on North and South Korea ?

Do you think this is going to end up in a conflict between the North and South

North Korea really seem to be ratching up thier provocations and have now closed the industrial zone. I was reading some report that if they close this zone down NK are not messing about with just empty threats this time.

I see that the USA are now also deploying THAAD balistic misile defence systems in Guam

Do you think this whole crises will end up in war and do you think China will get involved ?

Markul 04-03-2013 12:11 PM

Nothing will happen. That's my bet and if it does go pearshaped, the commies will loose. All around.

shake 04-03-2013 12:17 PM

They probably just want more free food and supplies and they like to act crazy to get it. But no one knows for sure.

JosephFM 04-03-2013 12:18 PM

The US should just send Dennis Rodman to NK and have him talk to Kim to cool things down a bit.

But, place a tracking device on Rodman and when he is meeting Kim send in a drone to do a surgical missle strike in their exact position and take them out both.

KJU owns at least 10 bitcoins. He can pay a war with that. We are fucked.

Lets hope so, I have never seen NK go so far with their threats as they are doing now.

The United States sees a "real and clear" danger from North Korea, given its nuclear and missile capabilities and bellicose rhetoric, US Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel said earlier Wednesday.

Guam has become the most important US military base in Asia, housing its major airfield and an incoming contingent of US Marines.

I guess NK has the capability of hitting this base

This is what we know, his dad was full of hot air. The million dollar question is, is the son full of hot air too? NO ONE KNOWS. He is not his dad. His dads dying wishes could have been for him to destroy South Korea and the USA. At this point it is safe to say that no one knows anything about this guy or what he will or will not do.

There is a map floating around online of all of the NK missles and their ranges. They can hit a LOT of places. Many more than people think. They can't hit USA mainland (that anyone knows of) but they can hit Alaska and many of our bases around the world.

seeric 04-03-2013 12:29 PM

I can tell you from on the ground experience, as I was stationed at Osan AB SK from 1990-1992, that if NK jumps they will be annihilated.

We have so much firepower pointing at them that they won't know what hit them.

On the flip side, they are mostly ground war oriented, as their armaments are shit, a lot of SK and US Army troops at the DMZ are in their way. Their short range missles could kill a lot of folks before we push the buttons and wipe them off the map.

Another thing I find strange is that if this was another country threating to Nuke the US, and its allys/ interests, The US would have just gone in and attacked them, Its kinda strange seeing the US saying things like " We will defend" instead of "attacking"

I wonder if China is looking at this new defence system the US are putting in Guam as a threat to them as well.

What does that mean?

Captain Kawaii 04-03-2013 12:44 PM

Its about getting more free stuff. The FBI placed several Zainichi (Koreans masquerading as Japanese, in Japan) Yakuza Groups on their watch list last year. They are suspected of money laundering money into NK from various illegal activities. When the US announced tightening of financials recently it was the squeeze they put to Banks who were processing these transactions. Kim is pissed off as you can imagine.

This hit the radar in Japan because Japanese groups have been organizing protest in front of the buildings housing Zainichi Support Organizations. During the protests, Zainichi sent thugs to beat up the crowd. Fortunately, Japanese Police were there. Now investigations have been opened up about the Zainichi Groups slowly revealing their connections to Kim.

Chinese and Japanese will tell you Koreans are like dogs. Have to hit them on the nose, and hard otherwise they puff up their chests til they explode.

Now, last night, NK has detained some 800+ SK workers in Kaesong. When the dog is fed now, it will be quiet.

The fuck part is, SK does not want to merge. They say they do, but the elite do not want that. Neither do the Zainichi in Japan. When that happens, Korea will look like 1933 or 2009 US. Collapse.

Just my :2 cents:

At least half of Japanese porn is produced by Zainichi.

And now this :(

N. Korea says it has final approval for nuclear attack on US – reports

North Korean army says it has final approval for nuclear attack on the US, AFP reported. This comes shortly after the Pentagon said the US military prepares to deploy an advanced missile-defense system to Guam.

Pentagon says the US military prepares to deploy an advanced missile-defense system to Guam to defend American military bases in the Pacific as a "precaution" following North Korea threats.

The DoD has announced that top defense officials approved the deployment of a Terminal High Altitude Area Defense System, or THAAD, which includes a truck-mounted launcher, interceptor missiles, a AN/TPY-2 tracking radar and an integrated fire control system, Reuters reports.

halfpint 04-03-2013 01:12 PM

Sonebody else has posted about this closure of the industrial zone too

I was listening to NPR, they said that a indicator was the factory that allows S.Koreans to work. If they closed, we're fucked.

Maybe he is not fucking about this time

In a fresh broadside, North Korea's state-run news agency KCNA announced that the "reckless nuclear threat" posed by the United States "will be smashed by the strong will of all the united service personnel and people and cutting-edge smaller, lighter and diversified nuclear strike means of the DPRK."

So, only if USA attacks first?

halfpint 04-03-2013 01:25 PM

North Korea's supreme military command has issued a statement saying it formally notifies the White House and the Pentagon that their threats would be "smashed by... cutting-edge smaller, lighter and diversified nuclear strike means".

Who knows what the hell that means I just think this whole thing has gotten way out of hand now and China should do something to stop the North Korean Military leaders and its bullshit

I think it has become very dangerous allready for both sides and far worse than the Cuban missile crises or the cold war. Neither side seem to be backing down and one wrong move could spark off a confrontation, and we really have no idea how it will end.

Most analysts put North Korea?s nuclear weapons capability years away from a reliable rocket, warhead, and re-entry vehicle ? all needed for a ?cutting edge? strike.
From the Lowy Institute for International Policy:

The kicker, though, is that until recently, analysts thought these particular North Korean missiles were just a prop. Little is known about KN-08 road-mobile missile, other than from what was seen at a parade in April 2012.

The war games didn't go smoothly:
It took 56 days for the U.S. to flow two divisions? worth of soldiers into the failed nuclear-armed state of ?North Brownland? and as many as 90,000 troops to deal with the country?s nuclear stockpiles, a major U.S. Army war game concluded this winter.
There were a few major problems tripping up the military, generals at the event told a handful of reporters, talking only without attribution.
? No "ISR": It's difficult to establish Intelligence Surveillance and Reconnaissance in a hermit kingdom as closed off to the world as North Korea. Essentially, the generals involved agreed that they would move rapidly north of the 38th parallel and be totally blind, without well established information infrastructure.
i.. what?

They dont reallly know what capabiltys the NK have and from what I gather the US are looking at this statement very carefully "smashed by... cutting-edge smaller, lighter and diversified nuclear strike means".

Oh now this !

SEOUL — North Korea dramatically escalated its warlike rhetoric on Thursday, warning that it had authorised plans for nuclear strikes on targets in the United States.

"The moment of explosion is approaching fast," the North Korean military said, warning that war could break out "today or tomorrow"

loreen 04-03-2013 02:07 PM

"The moment of explosion is approaching fast. No one can say a war will break out in Korea or not and whether it will break out today or tomorrow," North Korea's state news agency KCNA declared in its latest broadside. "The responsibility for this grave situation entirely rests with the U.S. administration and military warmongers keen to encroach upon the DPRK's sovereignty and bring down its dignified social system with brigandish logic."

"No one can say a war will break out in Korea or not and whether it will break out today or tomorrow" - they don't sound too convincing.

Assuming they go all out, just getting one or two missiles into Seoul would be devastating. They would get the wrath of God in return, but a lot of lives would be lost before that happened.

Since you were there... I read somewhere they have been caught a few times in the past digging tunnels under the DMZ. That true?

Rochard 04-03-2013 02:52 PM

China is no longer interested in supporting NK because they will accept even the possibility of having a nuclear war on their borders. China has been voting FOR sanctions.

NK has no hope of doing anything. They cannot go nuclear; The have the bomb but no delivery method and if they use the bomb, well, there would be no more Korea at all.

The US needs to take a much harsher stance - No support, no discussions, no free shit, no food subsidy... Nothing until the war is ended.

halfpint 04-03-2013 02:52 PM

NK have drones ??

Yes, absolutely. They've burrowed very deep into SK on many occasions.

You're also right that they can do some serious damage to SK cities and resources. We've got some excellent missile defense batteries in SK, so they should be able to mitigate some of them. Could kill a lot of people trying to prove their point, but in the end, they'd be made short work by a much better prepared, trained and lucid armed forces of SK and USA.

I wouldn't underestimate them entirely though. They've had 60 years to prepare for this second coming. Honor is a huge thing to them. Just as a population, they're quite nuts to be honest. The military is really out there. There's a lot of good reading out there about living there and how they train the military.

loreen 04-03-2013 02:57 PM

seeric, do you feel safe in SK?
