Okay this thing with Russia is really getting stupid

MOSCOW - A Kremlin-backed journalist issued a stark warning to the United States about Moscow's nuclear capabilities on Sunday as the White House threatened sanctions over Crimea's referendum on union with Russia.

"Russia is the only country in the world that is realistically capable of turning the United States into radioactive ash," television presenter Dmitry Kiselyov said on his weekly current affairs show.

Behind him was a backdrop of a mushroom cloud following a nuclear blast.

Kiselyov was named by President Vladimir Putin in December as the head of a new state news agency whose task will be to portray Russia in the best possible light.

Hard to believe there are people in the world this stupid. Stupid enough to run their yap in front of the world's media about turning other countries to 'ash' etc. You can bet your ass if an American journalist said something like this about Russia or any other country for that matter he would be literally fucking crucified for it. As well, Russian leaders would be crying for his head.

Is this really the mentality over there? "We could nuke you back to the stone age" ??? You know something is wrong with a government when their talking heads are spouting this kind of doomsday crap again like it was the 50's all over again.

EddyTheDog 03-17-2014 06:38 AM

It all makes me very nervous - I am allergic to nuclear bombs...

One thing the West has never accepted is that Russia never stopped the Cold War. The Soviet Union collapsed. All their dreams of communism and taking over the world were destroyed. They were crushed. They were humiliated. They fell apart. They were broke. They were broken down. They were dependent on foreign loans to stay afloat from 1994 through over a decade. It was a shaming unlike any seen without a million+ body count in the last century. And then... OOPS! The world allowed the price of gas and oil to skyrocket and there they are, flush with cash. Bills all paid.... and rebuilding the lost empire. People want peace... others want power. Those who are motivated, ambitious, determined and know how to go after power will win every time.

Lichen 03-17-2014 06:44 AM

Russians are fucking savages.

Then why the veiled threat? Sure it's propaganda, of course the cold war never had victor and a vanquished but to have a state sponsored news agent state otr that russia can turn usa to radioactive fallout is not only fear-based propaganda/hyperbole it's silly. Mutually Assured Destruction is still strategy for both powers

that was due to perestroika, not the cold war. re: if russia can or can't currently support itself, I'm under the impression their economy hasn't been any worse than any other recently
and perhaps marginally better than many.

A little early in the game to be talking about the use of nukes...funny stuff.

Matt 26z 03-17-2014 08:36 AM

I'm sure stupid comments aired on Fox News and MSNBC have been played back to Russians also.

Klen 03-17-2014 08:40 AM

Well i guess that journalist is retarded, nuclear war is not possible -
First, too much nukes can cause nuclear winter scenario on entire planet, not just targeted area if too abused.
Second, such attack would cause immediate nuclear retaliation -
entire russia would be nuked as well, since nukes are carried on submarines which cannot be found easily.

DAMNMAN 03-17-2014 08:56 AM

Mutually Assured destruction!!! Everybody know it, just waiting for a crazy person to do it.
Never count Putin out in the crazy dept.

DAMNMAN 03-17-2014 08:57 AM

The U.S. has already proven they can get crazy nuke style.

The use of nukes is not only possible but likely...at some future point in time...especially the use of tactical nukes.

love how western media blows everything out of proportion... this dude is a journalist, not anybody important at all, he's not even in the government at any level ... if a journalist from USA made some stupid remark, it wouldn't even make it to the news, why always such a double standard ?

Herb Kornfield 03-17-2014 11:05 AM

Putin can posture all he wants.

He does not have the balls to attempt to take on the US if it came down to it. He knows that his ass would get handed to him in a New York minute if he stepped too far by the rest of the world.

The battleground these days is in cyberspace and the finance markets. FAR more effective than bombs long term.

Riiight. It's a Russian media whore who has the nod and approval from the top man himself casually running his mouth about them nuking that same western world to ashes, and WE're overreacting? lol

Perhaps some of you are -under- reacting.

This clown sounds like he is Russia's version of Ann Colter. Was he not also the guy who made one of the most inflamatory statements in the media not too long ago, something about that organs from gays should not be used in transplants.

seeandsee 03-20-2014 07:53 AM

who care what some fagot says?

just a punk 03-20-2014 08:44 AM

That's Kiselev. He is a known fag and pseudo-patriot.

He also said that hearts of gays must be burned with fire. And almost right after that he took his family and spent a vacation in Amsterdam - the capital of LGBT. These facts shows a real nature of this lying piece of shit :2 cents:

GregE 03-20-2014 09:15 AM

This whole thing is going to blow over sooner or later.

The Crimea from the late middle ages, up until Nikita Khrushchev's bone headed decision to arbitrarily attach this primarily Russian populated province to the then Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic, has been an integral part of the Russian state in all of it's manifestations from Ivan the Great through Joseph Stalin.

Once the rest of the world finally calms down enough to pull it's underwear out of it's ass crack, a new UN (or similar) supervised plebiscite will in all likelihood be arranged to put this matter to rest once and for all.

Aidoru 03-20-2014 11:25 PM

I think somebody is getting more and more desperate filtering "news" and "sources" to support the mighty multimedial anti Russian hysteria. I can see it in local news too - can't imagine a worse and more evident example of journalistic desperation, I'm wondering who they quote next.

The basic fact that somebody actually tries to secure their economical (main foreign trade partner), geopolitical (black sea naval bases) interests and their people (Crymea) in a country that just managed to overthrow a legitimate government and fill in with members of a pseudo Nazi junta is somehow, repeatedly lost in translation.

Yup, poor misunderstood Russia. Now the media is reporting that Russia is saying it's troop deployments and movements in Eastern and Southern Ukraine are "merely training exercises".

From the NY Times --
Russia's Shifting of Border Force Stirs U.S. Worry
By MARK LANDLER
The national security adviser, Susan E. Rice, expressed skepticism that troop movements on the border of southern and eastern Ukraine were merely training exercises.

http://www.nytimes.com/2014/03/22/wo...=37692144&_r=0

However, the very next headline in today's NY Times....
As Sanctions Start, Russia Feels a Sting
By STEVEN LEE MYERS and NEIL MacFARQUHAR
With the onset of sanctions, Russia's stock indexes opened sharply lower and agencies threatened to cut the country's creditworthiness, but President Vladimir V. Putin's oligarchs stood by him.

And so it begins. If bullets, or missiles, fly over this, I'm sure it won't be Putin's fault. Right?
