Sentencing for this guy today. Prosecutors want longer than the 20 year mandatory minimum and this should be supported what with the enormous drug trafficking and it`s links to at least 6 deaths. What do you feel?

At Least 20 Years in Prison Await Silk Road Founder

After reading the big Wired story on him earlier this week my understanding is that nobody was actually murdered. He hired people to kill others, but they were all faked. Unless I misunderstood.

Either way, he is going away for a very long time. Even if nobody died he did try to order the deaths of others and they will want to make a example out of him to discourage others from running a site like this. I would imagine he will spend the rest of his life in jail.

Yep, no proof about people being murdered but the prosecution are stating that the drug trafficking/supply has lead to at least 6 deaths hence the increased sentencing. Ulbricht`s people are stating that their is no proof that his marketplace was actually responsible.

Ah, that makes sense. I know his lawyer argued that he was just a dumb kid who started this as an experiment and made a mistake, but clearly as it got huge he knew what he was doing and when he paid to have people killed that is no mistake.

The article I read said he still may have a second trial on the charges of him hiring a person to kill someone because the guy he hired was a DEA agent that was undercover, however, it turns out that DEA agent was also blackmailing Ross so who knows if there will someday be more charges.

I must read those two Wired stories today.

They are long and very detailed, but fascinating.

I believe he should get off. Too much corruption on the part of the feds that busted him to believe any of the evidence.

Total set up on the feds part...a good defense should see him walk. Unfortunately , they will want to make a point, the guys actions are nothing short of genius, and for this, he may see some time.

His mommy and daddy say he is a good boy. Just misunderstood. His friends and people who do not know him say he is cool. So...USA in 2015. He should be let go and given a million dollars for all his pain and suffering. Maybe more.

Ulbricht argued that the marketplace concept was that people should be allowed to buy and sell whatever they want. Does this have some logic? (obviously any dealings with anything relating to minors is totally off-limits and reason enough for the harshest punishment but drugs, weapons, counterfeit goods and so on?).

They will get him for murder for hire next. After reading the wired piece - and if the hits he ordered are true (I doubt the gov made that shit up, but it is possible) then I say life in the slammer

I read everything about him and he was an inept coder (not even a coder really) that set up foolish barely hidden servers for a system that required very little technical creativity. His system allowed cartel killers to sell heroin to suburban 16 year olds.

Wired is now reporting that Ross has received life in prison without the possibility of parole.

So six people lost their lives buying drugs where they shouldn't have bought them from? And he's going to get the book thrown at him?

What about all of the Wall Street bankers who tanked the economy? Don't tell me that crime wasn't the catalyst for more than a few deaths. Probably a lot more than six.

Because Wall Street bankers control our elected leadership through lobbyists and money and therefore create the laws. Not only did they not go to jail, they convinced the government to give them billions in bailouts.

Yeah, "a total setup"... he willfully and knowingly created the worlds largest online drug purchase and distribution system. He also attempted to have at least 5 people murdered (paid to have them killed and believed they were killed). At least 6 people died from illegal drugs bought there WITH HIS KNOWLEDGE and he was not only unsympathetic but defiant about it.

Hardly a genius... just another shit disturber desperate to achieve what he considered "success", who created a massive marketplace for murder, drugs and CP. You'd have to be a total fuckhead to either look up to that, defend that or celebrate that.

He "tried something different"? He fucking created an illegal marketplace for drugs, murder for hire, CP and everything else that was illegal. Thats not "trying something different".
