New Season of True Detective

Just finishing up the 1st episode of season two. Highlight has to be Colin Farrell's line to a 12 year old boy who was bullying his son, "You ever bully or hurt anybody again, I'll come back and buttfuck your father with your mom's headless corpse on this goddamn lawn!"

MrBottomTooth 06-22-2015 03:43 AM

Farrell was great. Vince Vaughn seems horribly miscast. Although maybe he'll get better. Just seemed like he was reading his lines in a bad snl skit.

kane 06-22-2015 03:51 AM

Vaughn, so far seems a little out of place. I read a couple reviews from critics that have seen the first 3 episodes and they say the star of the show quickly becomes Rachel McAdams.

I'm looking forward to seeing where it goes.

stoka 06-22-2015 03:52 AM

this time it's big city detectives, right? Then fail

Rachel McAdams' character seems so anti-porn (jus cus her sis was doing a lil webcam!)! Live and let live, sista!

Paul&John 06-22-2015 04:16 AM

According to critics Vince will be better..

I could watch Rachel walk around in panties with those perky lil tittes bra-less all day long.

But ya, good start. I'll watch.

Why would it fail because of that?

Last night I believe.

I liked it. I'm sure it will be a slow cooker like last season.

Just waiting for the inevitable "this shit is boring" posts.

Cliches and deja vu ahead. Big buildings, suits, big government fish, news reporters in helicopters, more 3-4-letter acronyms than you can count, sci-fi forensic investigations, IT bullshit, ridiculously large groups of drug dealers in ridiculous clothes, car chases through overcrowded streets and everything else that everyone and his aunt already saw hundreds of times. Nah.

But when it says Louisiana or Albuquerque you may be pleasantly surprised with stuff like a man's head on turtle's back or trailer park brothel on the edge of the evil forest :thumbsup

ReggieDurango 06-22-2015 07:54 PM

The entire time I was watching "San Andreas" all I could think about is how much I wanted to see her tatas

they be perfect yo

I see your point(s)

Sid70 06-23-2015 05:48 AM

It's built on depressed and fucked up characters. It was a relief when their stories brought them together finally. I'll give episode #2 a chance.

EngineCash 06-23-2015 06:06 AM

First season of True Detective was great... :) Hope the second will be also... :) :thumbsup

michael.kickass 06-23-2015 07:27 AM

Great series though I think it'd be really hard to top the first season. :2 cents:

More depressed and fucked up than first season characters?

Wow, a bit too much maybe, but I will watch S02 for sure.

poncabare 06-23-2015 08:33 AM

might be tough to top season one

VikingMan 06-23-2015 10:25 AM

When I read that these two actors would be cast together I wondered how the director would shoot the scenes and I thought "have them sitting so you do not notice the extreme height difference". So far in the first episode every time they are in the same room one or both of them has been sitting. :thumbsup

Also the fictional City of Vinci is referring to the small city of Vernon which you can end up in if you are lost in LA. I was thinking it was Hawaiian Gardens but saw and article where the writers were talking about Vernon.

(spoiler ahead)
Also I wonder if we need to just suspend reality and accept that there are not going to be any consequences for Colin having used those police resources to get the address of his son's bully and using brass knuckles on that passive aggressive twat of a father.

iFriends 06-23-2015 10:32 AM

Vince Vaughn being cast kind of puts me off. I'm used to him in silly comedies.

lezinterracial 07-04-2015 08:52 PM

I made myself watch the second episode. Spoilers.

Still slow moving as hell.
Rachel McAdams is starting to look interesting. It looks like she might be addicted to porn (wondering if that was anybody here's website - Cali Girls something like that). And she was raised in a cult. I am thinking it will turn out she was molested. She has sexual issues and was raised in a cult. I am getting a vibe of the "Children Of God" cult that Rose McGowan and River Phoenix were in. The first episode showed the cult leader that looked alot like David Berg of the Children of God.

MrBottomTooth 07-04-2015 11:32 PM

So can you survive 2 shotgun blasts at point blank range? I don't think even a bullet proof vest would have saved him from that last one. Hopefully they didn't pull a game of thrones and off the most interesting character already.

Yea, I think he is dead. Unless it was a combo of rock salt and a bullet proof vest or something.

Exactly, these series seem to be put together by a computer.

Why is the character always divorced, or had an affair with someone they now need to get help from, a dysfunctional cop taking the law into his own hands (we see enough of that in the US in real life) and other story lines I've seen over and over.

I watched the first one, got 15 minutes into the second and changed channels.

bronco67 07-05-2015 08:11 AM

The first shotgun blast would be tough to survive at that range. The second one straight to the gut would turn his midsection into jelly. Un-repairable jelly.

And his character doesn't strike me as the kind of guy who wears a vest....and would a vest even save your life from a 12 gauge blast 2 feet away? Even the trauma of the impact could probably kill you.

If he is dead, it's a bold move and I like it.

mineistaken 07-05-2015 08:47 AM

Fuck, of course he is not dead. Vince and Collin are 2 main actors, same as Woody and Mathew were.
They are there for all the episodes. Unless they bring back flashback scenes and show Collin's character from the past.

Or unless Collin was too big of an actor to play in whole series, so he just signed for 2 episodes, lol.

I do not like them not continuing with 2 detectives storyline like they had in 1st season. Now it lost its charm and uniqueness and turned into regular (but good) detective show.

bronco67 07-06-2015 03:50 AM

yeah, what did he say exactly about the type of load that was used?

If you blasted someone in the gut with a 12 gauge, wouldn't you know if he was wearing a vest from the lack of blood?

Not an expert. Just a thought, what would the blast do to a person's insides. If hit from a short distance?

Maybe like getting hit by a sledge hammer and nothing to cushion the blow.

CDSmith 07-06-2015 10:44 AM

Vaughn's character is a slower burn than the others. He's getting more desperate by the episode though, with the Russian guy backing out of 'the deal' and now several of his other go-to guys, by ep 3 he's taken to brawling and pulling teeth to send his message and vent his frustration. You know, since he can't get it up.

I thought maybe after that fight that he would throw a good one into his woman at the end there. In the spirit of the series there's nothing like a hard fuck after a good fight.

Farrel is the trainwreck. Mcaddams may come to be the one who saves him from himself, but at this point I'd have to say they are headed for at least a hookup.

Liking it so far. I think I'll just leave off with comparing it to S1 and just see where it goes.
