Flint hasn't had a Republican mayor since 1973, that's when. Even that was a short lived experience. The teamsters and the UAW have owned the political influence on that city for 3/4 of a century.

100% authority? Try no authority. The decision to switch from Lake Huron to The Flint River was a state decision. A state with a Republican governor and a house of representatives controlled by........ Republicans.

Republican Gov Rick Snyder and his cronies have been a cancer on that state since taking office. Job one was undermining any democratic or union authority they had access to. Passing the "right to work" law that was solely aimed at dismantling the power of unions, drew huge protests not only from union members, but from average citizens as well.

This is just another shameful example of the war on middle class and working families. So, there is plenty of reason to be calling for the arrest of those responsible, and that responsibility just so happens to fall at the foot of the Governor.

Once, again, your understanding basically amounts to shit. Once this started to come out, all those "checks and balances" you are referring to were conducted under the authority of the state of Michigan. Which is why there is going to be an investigation, because there is already evidence showing those reports were tampered with. One example is that some of the water that was tested and included in those reports was from houses in Flint that were not even hooked up to the city water supply. Doctored reports are a felony. They thought that could get away with it, thinking nobody would bat an eye. Some heads are going to roll on this one.


Not a race thing? Well given the fact that the majority of citizens of Flint are either black or hispanic, doesn't cast a very good reflection on the mostly all-white politicians that make decisions for them.

Again, the local government authority over such matters were removed from local officials hands after Snyder was elected. Flint's current mayor, Karen Weaver, has asked that authority be returned to local officials, but since there is a strong possibility that some higher ups are likely to to be found guilty of negligence, look for that process to be stalled as long as possible.

The DWSD also expected that Flint pay them for past investments in the water system that benefited regional customers; Flint and Genesee County rejected such responsibility, although they indicated willingness to purchase some pipeline."
