XBIZ Summer draws record 1200+ attendees - forced to move from July for 2009.. [poll]

Huge thanks to the sponsors of the XBIZ Summer '08 Forum for supporting our biggest show to date - we simply couldn't have done it without you.

As much as we've ignored the issue of heat in the past, we can no longer continue to do so.

Expect a new month for 2009.

Meeper 07-14-2008 11:05 AM

Great show indeed! Wheres the poll?

tranza 07-14-2008 11:08 AM

I don't get it, if it was such a success, why are you guys changing the dates?

I think the thread mentions the intense heat is the reason.

RyuLion 07-14-2008 11:14 AM

yeap, 112 took my energy away..though I don't understand who I didn't get sun burned because I didn't put any lotion..

baddog 07-14-2008 11:15 AM

Forget who I was talking to about this, but they said they still wanted it to be a month that was "pool weather."

I am not sure what months are pool worthy in Vegas but still available. How does mid-October look?

Socks 07-14-2008 11:18 AM

Seems too close to Internext to me

SteveLightspeed 07-14-2008 11:19 AM

Part of what makes it a well-attented show is that it doesn't compete with anything else in July. It was unusually hot this year, but last year was perfect.

tony286 07-14-2008 11:22 AM

Congrats but before moving to a bigger place in 2009.I would see what the rest of 2008 holds for our industry. Just a thought.:)

JenniDahling 07-14-2008 11:24 AM

There's a nice window after the Phx Forum and before Cybernet, how about something in May? Vegas is still mild.

Got Porn? 07-14-2008 11:25 AM

Vegas has perfect weather in May

I couldn't agree more.

Webmaster Access is in May.

webgurl 07-14-2008 11:46 AM

the flights/room rates is low season thats the only benefit
otherwise the insane heat over-rides everything to make the show
a lil more difficult to attend . Maybe this is just a CND speaking though ... haha

Bigger != cooler.

John. 07-14-2008 11:51 AM

What's the point in having a poll if you're mind is already made up? You said "expect" changes next year..

SiMpLe 07-14-2008 11:52 AM

Bah leave it - The heat wasn't that bad. I would just lose the cabana's and have the b2b inside. Prob solved. I love that hotel, mushy beds and LCD's hehe

SiMpLe 07-14-2008 11:54 AM

I do have one bitch though and it's the hotel and not Xbiz...

THERE WERE NO POKER TABLES!!!

lame

SykkBoy 07-14-2008 11:54 AM

I think the most insane thing was those of us golfing on Tuesday in the 111 degree heat...

um, but the fact that Vegas Ken, Joe from xxxcash and myself all shot um....90...made up for it...that's why we golfed as the last group...had nothing to do with me being late...everything due to us not wanting to show up any other golfers... ;-)

payd2purv 07-14-2008 11:56 AM

Heat stroke is a bitch...

Good point, I wanted feedback on the decision as well as general comments.

Coming soon to HRH. :)

SykkBoy 07-14-2008 11:59 AM

the pros of July: it fits nicely between Cybernet and Internext without them being too close together.
usually easier to get better room rates and flight packages that month.

the cons of July: the heat

I had a really good time despite the heat...the poolside view was great
as a resident of Vegas, I'm used to constant construction, so that wasn't a huge issue for me.

what are the chances of a September show? would still be pool weather, but much cooler than July

Easton 07-14-2008 12:02 PM

i'm from phoenix and i still found it hotter there than at home...

and no way was i stepping into the tepid public pool of human filth and urine called a swimming pool - so yeah it's real hot in the sun when you're not in the pool LOL

September = Amsterdam

What about October?

CarlosTheGaucho 07-14-2008 12:11 PM

As far as there are so many shows already it's kind of tough to find a different term I guess.

Yes the heat was pretty intense this year , but still everyone seemed to enjoy most of it. Just remember HYDRATE :drinkup :drinkup

_Richard_ 07-14-2008 12:16 PM

great show all around.. heat was bad.. not crazy tho

D-Money 07-14-2008 12:18 PM

It was a great show Alec. I love the time of year, but I agree, the heat was a bitch.

Even my venue was in the 90's.

AND I would keep it in Vegas. February or March maybe?

Flip Flop Xbiz Hollywood with Vegas Summer.

Whaaaalla!

SykkBoy 07-14-2008 12:35 PM

oops, my bad, I forgot about all the September shows going on....
I need to remember to check Fubar first next time :)

C H R I S 07-14-2008 12:36 PM

I had a great time Alec - pleasure meeting with you.

Congrats on the numbers!!!!!!

I agree with D$ - February or March in Vegas would be perfect. It was just too hot to go outside for longer than 20 minutes. We have to question if we can handle 2 HUGE Vegas shows in a matter of 3 months....

Good luck with the choice!

Agreed! Unusually hot! But not unbearable! But then again, we're in Phoenix! July is fine for me! :thumbsup

MichaelP 07-14-2008 01:27 PM

Hello guys,

Well I'm from up north and I was expecting way worst but it wasn't that bad after all..

As Steve said, maybe hotter than the usual, but still bearable, especially when it's dry heat and not humid like Florida :2 cents:

Vendzilla 07-14-2008 01:55 PM

wait, it's hot and there is lots of cold beer, so whats the problem?

Imortyl Pussycat 07-14-2008 02:01 PM

last week of June?? maybe a few degrees cooler

oh yes this was shitty i had to play else where for that :disgust

fuzebox 07-14-2008 02:07 PM

Yeah the weather was pretty brutal... I ended up getting heatstroke the last day from being outside all day and not hydrating properly. Totally my fault, but the heat did make the whole week rather uncomfortable.

p.s. The Hard Rock's new poker lounge should kick some serious ass.
