What are some negatives of internet pornography?

Alright, heh... My mom just called me, shes having a debate in her Public Speaking class for college, and the topic is internet pornography, and shes gotta debate the NEGATIVES of it...

I have no fucking clue why she asked someone who WORKS in it to give the negatives, but like a good son, I told her I'd help and see if I can find anything for her.

So I'm coming to you GFY, help me help my mom graduate college, lol.

Questions she asked me:
  1. How the laws changed and what they are with internet pornography.
  2. A few arguments AGAINST internet pornography.
  3. Propriety pictures to use about internet pornography.
  4. Statistics of internet pornography.

If anybody can help, I'd really appreciate it.
Thanks in advance.

How so? Theres negatives in every industry, not like I'm trying to come up with a case to take down the industry...

DWB 11-03-2008 10:48 AM

Porn is a segway drug. You start with the soft stuff, like Playboy, then before you know it you're sucking off ladyboys in Asia while cheap Thai whores are pissing down your chest, blowing smoke in your face and kicking you in the balls.

Tell her that.

Go post this shit on X3 or something,

If my mother asked me that shit I would hang up on her.

tnaindex 11-03-2008 10:55 AM

one negative that you might want to mention is the social stigma that adult models have to deal with?

hope its helpful!

I bet you and your mother don't get along huh?

Its a college debate, nothing more, if it pisses you off so much, maybe you should get out of the industry, because every industry has pros and cons, live with it, if you can't go work with barney or something you damn cry baby.

She decided now that my fathers passed, and her 3 children are grown up and on their own, that maybe it's time to go to school, I support her, there's no age limit on college.

Heh, yes those are negatives, but the wrong negatives.

Enemator 11-03-2008 11:04 AM

One negative is that it attracts people like you.

Press Release Pro 11-03-2008 11:04 AM

hi mr. 200 clicks.

go work on getting traffic instead of your board rep.

Tom_PM 11-03-2008 11:09 AM

The negative is "obscenity" laws. "I'll know it when I see it".
Can you or your mom imagine if the government see's some cupcakes as criminally obscene, but they wont know it til they see it, so if you make it and they see it and they know it, you could go to prison?

I mean shit. You know the gray area of the law that this entire industry is forced to work under in the US right?

Another negative is tha decades long media misinformation (not saying it was intentional) that proclaims that if you are a woman who is into adult entertainment, that ultimately you are being used and manipulated by a man and you are corrupt. Which is funny because at the same time, I've been told how women are far beyond the days when they could be "kept" in such straits by any man.

Also it goes against common sense. Let me ask you a question. If 10 men go into a club and 1 woman gets $20 from each of 10 men. Are the men using the woman? huh, interesting.. Well remind your mom that society at large gets a generally very screwy view from politicians who do crazy things like refer to abortion as "murder in the womb" and other fun facts like that. (Brownback, (R) Kansas)

I dunno, you should have plenty to tell her when you think about negatives from the POV of someone who WANTS to be into adult entertainment.

BTW: "pornography" as a word is often not even allowed in courts (and I advise her to dispute the word) because it is a post-judgment word. That is to say it carries ONLY a negative connotation. Have her dive right into that meaty chunk. It's adult entertainment.

An argument against internet porn is that all levels of it are accessible to underage people who might not have the necessary real life experience to judge porn for what it is... fantasy.

Before the internet, the only way to get some porn if you were underage were legal age friends, finding your dad's dirty mags and/or stealing the goods from the corner shop...

Now, 12 year olds left alone with parents who do not concern on adult filters, have the ability to see hours of gang bang videos for free since they just have to SAY to a link that they're 18. Which leads to much more sexually jaded people that will very likely not be satisfied with their sex lives. I've known SEVERAL people who got into the internet about 10 years ago, many of them virgins, who haven't been able to get off to anything less than gaping, gagging gang bangs since they were 16, yet are unable to go out there and look for dates.

ok, fair enough, pretty reputable sources then.... problem is that all of those people on those forums also have 11 inch penises, so that kind of skews the demographics a bit :1orglaugh

SmokeyTheBear 11-03-2008 06:48 PM

i have a negative..

Your mom might call up one day asking about the negatives of the porn industry :)

SmokeyTheBear 11-03-2008 06:54 PM

but seriously , i will give you a few common pointers she can build on

Porn creates body image issues for women who can't live up to the pornstars body image or performance

Porn creates body image issues for men who can't live up to the pornstars body image or performance

Porn addiction ?

Feeding drug addiction.

Breakup families

not that i agree with any of those but def essential debate points

A few free-flowing thoughts...

One of the major problems of debating the negative aspects of porn is those who denounce it tend to exaggerate their points and blow things out of realistic proportion.

Generally (but not always)...those who debate the negative side are often people who aren't involved in the industry itself and have little-to-no insider knowledge or factual data to back up their assertions.

Not to say there aren't negative aspects, of course.

As someone who's been involved in the adult entertainment industry since the early 90s, one negative aspect (from a producer standpoint) is it can sometimes be detrimental to maintaining secondary mainstream employment outside the industry. In the past I've been let go from a job when management learned I was an adult photographer. At the time I was rather pissed off at their decision...but later came to realize it was actually a positive thing since it motivated me to devote more time to photography production.

Lemons into lemonade.

But I digress....

Hopefully my mom does a good job of being true and not over exaggerate, as shes all for the industry and has supported my decision to work in it since she first learned I was doing it in mid March 2000.

This board's full of specific negatives about online porn... Just do a search and make shit up:

1. Tours / advertisements that completely mis-represent the experience after the credit card has been swiped.
2. X-sales
3. Being a sponsor and working to not get constantly fucked by sketchy affiliates.
4. Being an affiliate and not get fucked by sketchy sponsors.
5. Lack of accountability; anyone can open a porn site, do what they want and get out if it's too sketchy.
6. Lack of morals; "if it makes me money, fuck the rest of you".

Maybe I missed the point, though anyone reading threads on this board for even a week could make up some shit.
