Want to lose weight? Get out & walk! I do : )

So about 4 months ago I weighed 298.7lbs....which was the most I have ever weighed. I got REAL close to that morbidly obese 300.

I decided right then I was going to do something about it. I put it off for another 1 & 1/2 months but it was "set in stone" in my mind. I also decided to stop any recreational drug/booze usage as well. (i know, it sucks). And i take a multi-vitamin every day.

So about 2 months ago, I got up one morning & decided I was going to walk. I didn't want to walk around my neighborhood & a "tread mill" sounded too much like masturbation to me. It was 100 degree's outside every day.

One of my buddies mentioned the mall. What a great suggestion. So from that day on, every single morning I wake up (cept for 1 day a week) I go & walk around 3-5miles at the mall. And i try to cut down the amount of food i eat. But i wouldn't say I am "dieting" at all. Just cutting out a little bit at a time.

As of today (60 days later) I am down to 248.6lbs. And losing about 1lb a day as of right now. Once i hit 210lbs (I'm going to hit the gym) to firm up. And I'll post here on gfy one last time to announce my victory over laziness & obesity. :pimp

Please post any suggestions as to how I could improve my little "system'.

You lost 50 lbs in 2 months by just walking 3 to 5 miles per day?
How long do those walks last?

Sosa 09-22-2009 07:49 PM

Great job pr0! After dropping 60 lbs over three years ago I've put 30 of it back on. I'm slowly losing it again by doing a 30 min ride on a exercise bike we have and cutting back on what I eat. Also go for walks with the dog and wife when she gets home from work which is working good. I just need to watch out on weekends when I tailgate and go out.

xenigo 09-22-2009 07:49 PM

Green tea extract is supposed to work pretty decently from what I've heard from my body-building friend. Sounds like you're having some pretty good results, so whatever you're doing works just fine...

punker barbie 09-22-2009 07:50 PM

add some velcro weights to your ankles and wrists :o)

Sometimes it goes by faster than others. For the first month at the end i would be "hurting" pretty bad & sweating profusely. As of this week, i barely break a sweat & feel like a million bucks. I would say around an hour every day, total.

Next I've got to quit the cigarettes :pimp

I might also need a slimmer pirate avatar soon.

Congrats :)

Rednax 09-22-2009 07:53 PM

Congrats man.. 50lbs is very noticeable. I decided with a job like this you've gotta do some exercise. I find myself more productive when I do as a plus... little natural endorphin rush.

I ended up walking into 24hr fitness about a year ago and started up with a trainer - 3x a week with him and after a year I've seen nice results. Sure I blow a few hundo a month, but it forces my ass to do it - no 2-3 month lulls. My biggest suggestion would be to make sure your diet is clean, or at least pretty clean... you'll see huge improvements. I have to force myself to eat breakfast every morning (banana, cereal) and small meals throughout the day. It really boosts the metabolism big time. I also cut out soda except for a few times a week with dinner or whatnot. Lots of unneeded calories suckin down the cola while sitting here.

Cheers to 210

Great stuff. Add some light weight training now before your cardio why wait?

That's some good results. :thumbsup
I've been strugling to lose 50 lbs these past 10 months with medifast...
Brisk walking can make you use 14 calories a minute.

Deej 09-22-2009 07:56 PM

About to hit the gym...

I hate the treadmill and running. Now i dont care at all abotu walking around town or whatever, I even love riding my bike. Which I need to pick up again. Especially now that Im closer to the Park where the "strand" runs through. It actually goes through 4 towns... a 30 mile stretch. I think the most Ive done at one time was 8-10 miles just on the strand.

GOd forbid hitting the end town :winkwink:

Anyway I guess all im trying to say is Im right there with ya buddy. Right now im at your current weight. but its what Ive really been since high school.

Id like to slim it down a smidge. NOthing huge. Just baby fat :pimp

Good call, you can just put those on your ankles and walk around the house or do leg lifts under your desk.

And the masturbating with the wrist ones on ... that's a workout!

I don't like the "shape" of my body right now & the last thing I want to do is firm any of it up.

Plus I will feel more comfortable about putting "strain" on my body once my cardio/heart is in better shape. I have not exercised in literally 10 years. (since i got into this business).

So I am scared to do any strength training or really get my heart rate up, until i can take off enough weight to lower the strain on my heart. :2 cents:

Of course I am not a doctor, nor has any health professional told me that. I think its just common sense to me in a way though.

stickyfingerz 09-22-2009 08:06 PM

Tada!! good job on the weight loss. Im workin on putting some back on lol. Up 2lbs finally. Need another 5 and I am right where I wanna be. :winkwink:

Nice work! Personally I would be shooting myself in the head if I spent more than a few minutes in a mall per YEAR. But whatever works, stick with it.

Recommendations to amp it up:
-try to get rid of high fructose corn syrup and liquid sugars. That means sodas and juices and a hell of a lot of shit you wouldn't expect
-eat more fiber from natural stuff. (veggies and fruits)
-eat a small healthy breakfast as early in the day as possible to get your metabolism active as soon as you can in the day
-don't eat anything heavy or carby late at night
-as soon as you can start lifting weights, focusing on large muscle groups... that will increase your burn rate and help everything drastically. Keeps working long after you finish the workout.

Good luck! :thumbsup

Helen 09-22-2009 08:12 PM

Well done with the weight loss, it sounds like what you're doing is working. I would end up stopping in the shops and buying things :)

I wonder if I should go see a doctor & find out If I'm in good enough shape (after 2 months of daily cardio) to start lifting. I mean i feel great...but i wonder if a stress-test is in order? I'm only 29, so I'm sure my heart is fine. Last time it was checked (and given a 100% rate) was around 1 year ago.

I just don't want to have a heart attack in the gym. Also i want to get rid of my man-boobs :1orglaugh I just assumed lifting weights wouldn't help that. Am i wrong?

woj 09-22-2009 08:17 PM

Don't be afraid to practice some better living through chemistry. I know the people on here that have never done an athletic thing in their life will scream for you to do it naturally (even though they have never seen the inside of a gym), but Clenbuterol and Albuterol are your friends...

Sly 09-22-2009 08:26 PM

That's great man, congratulations.

Now, how do you feel? Emotionally/mentally and physically.

Quick google search yields two good summaries:
1)weight lifting and fat loss: http://www.askmen.com/sports/bodybui...uilding16.html

2)Win the Man Boob Battle
http://www.askmen.com/sports/bodybui...tness_tip.html

I'm sure there are MUCH MUCH better resources out there, but you should read a bit and you'll be surprised at what you learn about fitness.

gornyhuy 09-22-2009 08:29 PM

Seriously though about the diet -
I know its long, but you have to watch this, at least the first 20
minutes and last 20 minutes.

I think some girls down here miss you... :winkwink:

WiredGuy 09-22-2009 08:37 PM

That's awesome, I've been doing 90 minutes of elliptical interval training every day. I've lost about 8 pounds of fat and gained 4 in muscle in a month so far. I'll be switching it up to more weights in 2-3 weeks hopefully.

Wow i had no fucking clue my inhaler might be helping me. I bought an inhaler about 6 months ago in Costa Rica. I only use it like 1-2x a week....but the last few days, I've been using it almost every day. And my weight loss has increased by about 20%. Now It may or may not be related. As from what i just read, you need more than 1-2 puffs on an inhaler of Albuterol in order to see weight loss effects.

I was always under the assumption that inhaler's caused you to 'gain weight'.

EthnicLover 09-22-2009 08:45 PM

Congratulations on loosing so much weight, that is awesome!

I have one big suggestion for you: P90X

Muscle confusion will have you firming up your body in no time and give you plenty of cardio too. This program has drastically changed my body. It really works.

Va2k 09-22-2009 08:48 PM

This is an interesting article that tical from this forum gave me a few years ago and it really got me on the Albuterol bandwagon. I honestly don't know if the levels in an inhaler are enough, as I was using the liquid version, but the liquid was incredible.

I am 6'3", and I have always been kind of on the thin side but in shape, and most of my life I had pretty defined abs. I usually was in the 180 pound range with little to no fat on my body. In 2006 when I quit running porn stores and started partying more than I ever have in my life and living a more sedentary lifestyle I got as heavy as 230 pounds, which for my body type was just way too much. I got back into boxing and MMA training, but I used the Albuterol because I am an impatient fuck and wanted fast results. The pounds melted off and it also gave me a nice energy rush. I don't use it anymore because I'm back at my normal weight but I highly recommend it to anyone trying to get into shape...

Supz 09-22-2009 08:53 PM

If you want to see a drastic change. Diet is the key.

Great story. I wish you even more success in pursuing your health goals. Yet another example of the new paradigm re exercise: exercise for metabolism not calorie burning.

only issue I had with clen (worked great though) was the god damn shakes... like i had fucking Parkinson's n shit.

If you're really gunna hit the clen be careful though it can cause some pretty nasty long term effects

cam_girls 09-22-2009 10:01 PM

I wouldn't change anything, 5 miles is great just keep motivated. When your weight loss starts to plateau then it's time for the gym.

WWC 09-22-2009 11:02 PM

Good for you! Walking is the best.....especially fast walking....better than running, at least you wont hurt your joints!

SpeedWacker 09-22-2009 11:08 PM

You should walk on the beach in South Florida, it's hot.

sandman! 09-22-2009 11:10 PM

i personally rather do the threadmill in the gym.
