While the Gulf is being poisoned, BP CEO goes yachting
As oil spews in Gulf, BP chief at UK yacht race - Jun 2010
(06-19) 10:06 PDT LONDON, United Kingdom (AP) -- In what one environmentalist described as "yet another public relations disaster" for embattled energy giant BP, CEO Tony Hayward took time off Saturday to attend a glitzy yacht race around England's Isle of Wight. BP spokespeople rushed to defend Hayward, who has drawn withering criticism as the public face of BP's halting efforts to stop the worst oil spill in U.S. history. Spokeswoman Sheila Williams said Hayward took a break from overseeing BP efforts to stem the undersea gusher in Gulf of Mexico so he could watch his boat "Bob" participate in the J.P. Morgan Asset Management Round the Island Race. "He's spending a few hours with his family at a weekend. I'm sure that everyone would understand that," Wine said Saturday. "He will be back to deal with the response. It doesn't detract from that at all." Still, hobnobbing with millionaires and their yachts is likely to be a hard sell in the Gulf, which is struggling to deal with up to 120 million gallons of oil that have escaped from the blown-out well. LINK :2 cents: Glad Hayward isn't losing any sleep or anything. We know how hard his life is. |
He's been taken off the job of over seeing the Gulf oil spill and not before time. He's a PR nightmare.

the news piece is just an excuse to stir shit up, the oil leak will likely go on for the next 3 months, of course he will be spotted doing more fun stuff during that time... |

I mean shit... is the guy really that dumb? How did he ever get that position? It's no different than AIG taking billions in bailout, then hosting extravagant excursions in the $400k range the very next week and passing out bonuses. |
they care about the small people.
they said so and that's good enough for me, i'm american! |
Whatever he does people will complain about it. It's not like he would be actually doing anything clean-up related if he wasn't at the race and it's 1800 boats not really something elitist.

on a positive note, i just read that 1 of the relief wells is now <200 feet away from the busted well and ahead of schedule.

ahh, more info:
The first well also was within 200 feet (61 metres) of the side of the blown-out well, but had to continue drilling down to find the right intersect point. |
i guess it's still good news- they are ahead of schedule.

Corporations are people, according to the Supreme Court.
So BP is a dick. What else is new? Think I'll incorporate myself so i can get away with all kinds of shit and say 'Fuck you' to the world and go watch some yachts race. |

waiting for a TeaBagger apologist to straighten out the Libsss on this issue....

The yacht race was most likely scheduled before the spill happened, which makes it perfectly ok for him to be competing in it.
When you have a race to attend, you show up. It's the way of things. |

So are you saying he shouldn't have a social life or be seen in public until the spill is resolved? |
