Content theft demographics?
Just mulling something over in my head and realised there is a huge black hole in this area - someone correct me if i'm wrong....
If there are no demographics on age group of eg tube users, how can anyone say if lost sales are due to tubes? It's illegal in most countries to display porn to minors (<18yrs) yet I'm pretty sure (a hunch) a good % of porn internet surfers are <18yrs old. Most 12-18yr olds are extremely internet savvy. So I ask myself, where is the leak coming from? This is probably very naïve, but it seems to join a site, you need a credit card, so this eliminates most <18s unless Dad never cares to check his statements. Therefore the leaks are not on members, but businesses, right? Going back to the problem of industry theft in tubes being rife. The law in some countries allows porn to be viewed by a simple "I am over 18" click and bam, free porn. As if that's age verification pfffft. But what's the argument again against real verification of someone's age.... besides the underhand tactic of CC validation, and then the fraud x-sells etc after. I think we're passed that right? If someone <18 was viewing stolen content, you don't care because they could never be a member of your site right? To give an example of my point - if age demographics were available and the stats showed this: 1,000,000 people in total polled 30% of all porn viewers were <18 85% of all tube porn viewers were <18 then there is no problem, since you are only losing 7-8% of real sales to tubes. I do agree, it's still a lot, but not at the moment disastrous. Where it becomes disastrous is when that age group gets a cc and knows nothing but free porn. Then the balance changes enormously. So why not shout at an industry level for real age verification to be able to see porn? Bring back the good old days of porn being on the top shelf where it could only be gotten when old enough to reach it...

But ....... A whole generation of young adults are being trained to believe porn has no value. That's right we are training our future customers not to by our product.

dunno about tubes sites but a few of studies on torrents.
basically a couple users are behind the vast majority of torrents, and they use them to promote their sites. assume would be no different for tubes. look at the added watermarks to figure out whose doing it. |

guess it would create a market for verified porn tube accounts, like the ones for gmail, craigslist, youtube.
you could even buy them with hotfile affiliate points. getting the "industry" to do anything is a mirage, there will always be someone in china or russia who will happily suck up the bounced traffic. |

I'm not against theft if say someone is stealing food because they're starving. I'm not against theft if it was otherwise impossible for that person to obtain it legally. (even those two examples will probably raise eyebrows, but I don't care, that's my position against the laws in place to protect the obvious and damaging-to-business 'real' thefts) What I am 100% against is theft for personal profit. This is theft left, right, and center, up, down, wherever. L-Pink raised the very valid point that even if it's theft by kids, the tubes are going to kill the industry in what 5 years or less (porn tubes were introduced ~ 4-5 yrs ago). This generation want shit for free and when they grow up, they will always want it for free. Kids will still steal and provide it, snowball effect for the future generations. Now you suggest there is an industry motivation behind the illegal uploading (I don't agreee nor disagree, but I think you're right). These people are in it purely for the short term gain purely because of the snowball effect given above ( I don't think that is in doubt amongst anybody). So yes, you're right - stop that in it's tracks.... Inject identifiable information to movies, offer only fully secured streaming. I really find it ironic that it is so easy to do both, but yet so little do it (well, all I can say is 34 have asked for my help in doing it). I asked for ideas on an app that I can offer to combat all this and got what, replies from 3 different people. There is a lethargy in this industry I just don't get!

![]() Odd.
Considering a number of the analytics programs show you a snapshot on the demographics of your visitors. I would bet most of the torrent/tube people are under 30. Those who actually purchase, are 30+. Unless broke ass jokes. Which actually makes sense. Most people have developed certain nichey appetites as they get older, and are willing to pay for something that hits the spot. Whether cams, clips4sale, or whatever. They also have additional disposable income, and credit cards. Unless they are a creeper, I doubt they get off when the wind blows like the 20 something's. I would hazard a guess if you actually had the stats on most porn pay sites, and free sites, including the cam and clip store owners chime in with their stats you would reinforce these numbers. |

Look at the alexa demographics and you will find that users of piracy sites are in general younger than on non-piracy sites.

you are right: those <18's will be the buying power online in less than a decade, and that's when we'll seriously see our business go to the dogs.

ehm, because there are massive outlets on the high street still selling CDs? And easy-to-use digital media outlets to purchase music?
I used to copy tape-to-tape cassette albums in my youth, but shit that was painful. Besides those child-filled days I've never pirated a single label. I love browsing around the store listening to tunes, picking out albums. Occasionally I get some stuff from iTunes, but it's a rarity compared to shop sales. None of that exists in porn - shit there used to be at least 4 porn shops in my town - they've all long gone. The game is not comparable...
