I think adult and mainstream are classifications that are too broad. You would really have to narrow your focus to make money. Think about profitable niches that you could make money in. Adult - forums, toys, pics, videos, dating, web cams, etc.

I agree that mainstream and adult are two different animals. I came from a mainstream background and tried adult for a while and never really made much with it. I still have a couple of adult sites but got rid of most of them.
