What is the best investment return you've heard of or had?
Isn't 7% supposed to be like an amazing APY? What is the average for the riskier investments? Ever gotten 100%, 200%?

![]() When people invest and get returns as high as 100 - 200% then they're usually short term, high risk investments. And most of the time, people lose their asses. I invested in a small start up marketing company because the owner was extremely bright and was the type to go out and mingle with ballers. I invested $25k and within 6 months, was given a check for $75k . I invested in equity so he had to "buy me out" in a sense. That's the best short term, high risk investment I've ever made.

If you want returns like that, look at the global market and trade currency. High risk, high returns but if you get it wrong...game over. I would say gold but the price is already so jacked up, it's hard to get in and make a killing. I wish I knew the gold market was going to take off the way it did. Just a couple years ago it was $320 an ounce. Now it's up to nearly $1,500 an ounce....but rapidly declining.

Registered a bunch of good domains about 4 years ago (for $8 each). Been selling them off slowly, made about $30,000 last year on about 4-5 of them.

My non-online best return was when I worked for an insurance company. We adjusted some fancy rims from a BMW which suffered some very minor almost invisible warps. The owner kept bitching and nagging the claims office so my boss assigned me to adjust her claim and give her a fat check for a new set. To prevent any "quick moves" on her part, I was instructed to request the rims from the shop she was having the replacement work done at. I asked my boss what I should do with the rims. He said "keep it or get rid of it--just don't let her have them". He signed the disposition form and off I went. So I kept them and put them on recycler.com
$800 for free. Invested time: total of around 2 hours. No cash outlay since my company car and gas was paid for by the company. That was back in 1993 right after college. In the online world, best returns = PLR packages and FB goodies. |

![]() Best returns I have gotten, at least in reference to this thread, is through flipping websites.
I build a celebrity site a half dozen years back. It cost me around $3000.00 for the custom CMS, design work and the rest was just time and energy. I developed it for 18 months and sold it for $75,000.00. I have developed other sites for around the same or less and sold them for $6/10/25k after developing them for 9-24 months as well. I was telling my old business partner about this back when I had sold the $75k site. I had asked what are some good offline investments (since he owned real estate, car washes, etc.). He told me that there is nothing in the real world (off line) that will realistically, moderate risk, get you returns like that in such a short period of time and that I should just keep doing what I am doing. So I took his advice, and it's paid off nicely. ![]() |

Hold onto that silver! It's not even monetized ATM Historically silver trades at 1/16th the price of gold but right now it;s nowhere near that. If economic alnaylsts are correct and the US dollar is dropped as the reserve.. Gold may wel in fact become the global reserve and along with it sliver will again reach it's historically proven value JACKPOT!!! |

It was a series of investments that started around 2 years ago.
DNDN - In at around $4/share, dumped some at $8ish, some at $16, and the rest in the mid $20s. Here's the chart. Then, after taking out my initial investment, bought a bunch of GM $1 June puts when it was trading at $3 and flipped them for about a 50% profit. I took a bit more of it off the table, put some of it towards LVS (Las Vegas Sands) at $8 and the rest towards HGSI (another biotech) at around $4. Sold the HGSI a month later at around $25 and put everything into AAPL at around $170. It's at $337 now. I had to sell some of it for taxes last year, but still have a fair amount. I've also sold covered calls on it every other month for some extra money. I sold the LVS for $25 this past summer when long term gains kicked in and put it into EEM (an emerging market ETF). It's up about 10% and I also sell covered calls on it. The most impressive part, though, for me at least, is that I haven't spent any of it except for what I had to take out for taxes. I'm also in the middle of 91 weeks of $400 unemployment checks. lol

As a side project around 2004 I bought about 70 mainstream PR4 & PR5 dropped domains, put porn ads up, ranked a decent amount of them almost overnight for big terms (1st page for blowjobs etc) and cashed in over $35K+ gross the 1st month and $20K+ month 2.
Costs: 70 dropped domains = I don't remember exact prices but they were probably around $50 each so $3,500 total. Hosting = $25 monthly virtual hosting account. So for a few hours time buying dropped domains and $3K investment I made over $50K in 2 months. |

The Tokyo open after the tsunami/quake saw EUR/JPY drop to 112.50
A buy of the EUR there would have taken a ride up beyond 120.00, a 750 basis point rise which would be a 300% increase in just a few weeks.

During the housing slump in the early 1990's in the UK I got a apartment straight off the bank after someone defaulted, I offered them 20k, the mortgage was less than 100 a month, I rented it to the council for social housing they paid me 380 a month.
I sold it 15 years later for 50k, so 30k (150%) profit and 16% yearly return on investment. |

I bought into LVS and WYNN a couple years ago, the Chinese are degenerate gamblers and these two have the strongest presence in Macau.
LVS went from less than $3 to more than $45 today... |

I turned a $600 domain investment into a $5,000 sale in an hour. The seller undervalued it a lot, buyer saw I bought it on forum and PM'd me offering $3k, I countered $5k and sold. That annualized would be fucking scary. Approx. 8.33 to the 8760th power.
In terms of a single investment ROI, best I've done is $7 .org sold for $3,000 within the year. If renewal fees weren't counted, a friend of mine once gave me a poker domain for free that I eventually sold for $1,200. Best ROI on a larger scale would either a $3,000 purchase turned to $60,000 sale in 2 years.

Once you get past the mickey mouse stuff wall street tries to sell you, risk and return are primarily related to financial intelligence. Risk only slighty correlates with returns at that point. 50% or higher per year is a minimum if you know your stuff. 200-300% for investments you put together yourself. If you are more hands on infinite returns are not uncommon.

H cards, maybe? I don't know what I spent, for sure, maybe an average of $20 per and was selling them for $300-$400. One month I sold over 100 cards..
"Cell phone boosters" ... not sure what I made, but they cost me 5˘ and I sold them three for $10 + $5 S&H. S&H consisted of me telling someone to put them into an envelope and write an address on them. CCNOW took 10% Quarter Pushers... those are fucking ridiculous $1000 for a good one, they do $100-$1000 per week - 50% split with location owners = $50 - $500 / week on $1k investment They can average $200/wk in 8 hour small town beer holes AFTER the split. Even in the worst location possible that's still $2600/yr ($50x52) 250% fairly safe return like clockwork (And it's usually much, much higher. At a still conservative $200/wk it's $10k/yr or 1000%) Plus you don't always have to pay a grand for one |

I think the best return was around 550 times initial domain investment within a month or two.

They were DirecTV access cards At the time the newest card was the "football" card or H5 card or some shit and no one had cracked it.. so the older "H" card which could be programmed for wide open access was valuable. It was funny because at the time the new systems were $99 so I would get the older complete systems with the H card for $20 or $30 and complete systems with the card would sell for $400+ I never even had to program a card for anyone. I sold them as "virgin" cards meaning they'd never been tampered with. So I was completely legal. There was that thing about newscorp owning the cards and them not being the equipment owners card to sell or some shit and I think ebay ended up making you sell a system with a card People wanting to sell cards would just put the system on there and say shipping for card $5 shipping for whole system $200 ![]() They were fucking great though, test cards, - you could flip through PPV channels like they were basic cable, no entering codes or anything. Even wealthy people can't do that! |
