Isn't there a story in the bible about a son who has sex with his mother? If I recall correctly he murders his own father and then realizes it's his mother he's having sex with.

So to be a mother fucker, you also become cursed and violating your own father and dragging shame over yourself and disgrace to you whole family. Very, very shameful and might also result in death or to be expelled from the community.

Usually it refers to the mother of the guy who's been insulted. Sample:

- John Doe, You mother fucker! - that means John appears to have sex with his own mother, not with mother of someone else. They are close relatives, we have incest involved. That's not normal and thus the guy feels himself insulted.

If we accept the expression literally, then most of the men in world are mother fuckers, for having sex with women, who will give birth to their children, or women who are already mothers.

the english word origin dates back to the plantation. properly pronounced it's muthafucka not motherfucker, and it is a generic word for white folks since the 1600s. but don't take my word for it:

Actually you yourself probably quoted scripture at some point. Something like "a leopard can't change it's spots" Jeremiah 13:23. Much of common wisdom comes straight from the bible though you may not realize it when you say "there's a time and place for everything" Eccl 3:1

When you say "A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush" that's a Bible quote as is "He who lives by the sword, dies by the sword" Matthew 26:52
