![]() This is just a warning for those who may have a Paxum card, but have never used it.
So basically, I created a Paxum account after the whole Epass bullshit. I verified the account, and got the card in the mail. This process was fairly painless, but who cares... Thing is, I didn't really have a need for the card as I switched all payouts to checks. So the account sat there with a -$45.00 balance for a long time. Months and months later, one affiliate program suggests I use Paxum, as everything would be handled quicker. I was having trouble getting paid by this program by check. I give them my Paxum info, they deposit the funds, the negative balance has been paid. Awesome right!? Nope. Apparently, Paxum has deactivated my card, I guess this is something they do with cards that haven't been used in over six months. Nowhere have I read this anywhere on their TOS, FAQ, or whatever that I have found. So now I have money in a account that I can't use, and a card that I paid for, that I can't use. I contact support hoping to resolve the issue, they look into it and explain what happened, reassuring that the card would be reactivated in 48 hours or less. Well, it has been 17 days. That's 408 hours and I still can't access the money in my Paxum account, and no one is updating me with any kind of info other than "as soon as we hear from Mastercard, we will let you know..." Funds are in motion, I know ![]()

I just spent the last few dollars I had in Paxum and am letting it go. As a US resident I added up the fees and realized its just too expensive since it costs me nothing to deposit a check at my bank.
Great service for those not based in the US, but mighty expensive for those that are if you actually want to use the card for purchases. That $1 a pop for POS purchases and $1 to transfer from Paxum to their MasterCard really adds up. I could justify it if it were 25 cents or something but not a buck. |

Keep the account, receive payments there and then transfer from Paxum to you regular bank account once per month or every second month to keep fees low and time spent running to the bank to a minimum.

...and you're surprised? I'll stick to checks as long as I can. No fees other than affiliate fees ($1-3/check). Doesn't take much for me to run to the bank and deposit a stack of checks.

Checks are fine if you're in the US... that's probably one of the only places where people still 'regularly' use them. Over here, I once even got a "I didn't even know those things still existed" reaction from a bank teller. Not to mention the fees....

I am even cool with the $1.00 transfer fee if they would just make the POS fee more reasonable. I do a lot of $10 here, $20 there transactions and it really adds up. I didn't even notice it until I thought about it and sat down in front of the computer to add them up. Don't get me wrong though, it is a great service and I know it saves people not in the US a lot of money. This is coming from one of the initial skeptic haters that dug into them every chance I had this time last year. |

How long is a Paxum card good for if it's not used ? Obviously from this OP the expiry date on the card means shit ?

I'm wondering that too, if you pay for the INITIAL service fee 6 months late I'd be happy if I could get any kind of service afterwords

and most stupid thing is fee if card was rejected at POS or ATM. For example,if I've asked for more money then there is on account.

spanky,
Please check the email attached to your account. Quote:
The cards do have an expiry date on the other hand, and will have to be renewed, just like any other card. A card may be de-activated if it is idle, and the account is negative. under the new rules it can't happen in the 1st year, but it could in the 2nd when the annual fee is charged to the account again. |

Fuck, is there a fee if the cash is not sufficient??? FUCK IT, this is crazy. I knew there was a fee for checking your balance on ATM, but why the hell do they take fees for unsuccessful transactions??

Disabling cards prior to their expiry date regardless of use is just retarded. Seth Godin talks about systems which are broken by design, Paxum seems to be a shining example.

Many debit cards that are issued and never used, loaded, nor the activation fee paid will be disabled after 6 months.
I've seen this happen with several large banks and card issuers in the US. |

Just to be clear
The card may be deactivated if the card has been activated but the yearly fee has not been paid or if the card has a negative balance for a period of time. To prevent this from happening anymore - the new system that has been in place for a few now is that your card can not be activated until you show a positive balance in your account. Chris |

I am back to check with EVERYTHING. Depending on the check, I just scan them with the Paypal or my Bank's Android app and they get deposited that way. In the case of my bank, the funds are available immediately upon scanning in.

This also goes for your every day bank account at a major banking institution... Try not using your free checking account for a couple of months... They will close it for you. Chase did that to me...

again so no one is confused - we do not close an idle account. We close idle accounts who have not paid their yearly account fee.

You got off easy. If you had a regular Mastercard with a negative balance on it for 6 months you would owe hundreds in late fees, overdraft fees, etc, have fucked credit and be getting collection calls all day and night.

This is why I didn't want the card. $45 a year, + transaction fees, for something that provides little to no value to me.
By using Paxum without a card I actually save money, because many sponsors charge less to pay via Paxum than checks. |
