Is it possible to use system memory for my paging file?

Windows always INSISTS on having a paging file. When I upgrade the memory next month, would it be worth it to go for some extra? I was going to upgrade to 8gb.. Would it make sense to go for 16gb and make a memory drive of half of it to page from?

Kind of force windows to run without a paging file? Am I making sense, here?

You need this :

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RAM_disk

I already do it for many years... very fast... system memory is like 50 times faster than the fastest SSD

Also... everytime you logoff your "vitual pagefile" gets deleted autmatically.

Are you running win7 32bit or 64? It's pointless to have over 8gb of memory on a 32bit machine.

That is why I bought this, really, for the legal copy of Windows 7 64 pro
It can see up to 192 and this board will take up to 32

I actually got to try one of those iram drives when they were first released to reviewers years ago and they were amazing.. I imagine ssds are too

But since I cannot afford an SSD, I thought memory would be a lot of bang for the buck

doesn't windows only use the paging file when all the ram is used up anyway?

I always thought so but it seems to always create one, no matter what, no matter how much memory I have, even if I select NO PAGING FILE and reboot

No.

Every Windows version has a minimum RAM requirement, if you pass it, it uses the pagefile.

Real world Windows minimum figures :

W XP > 128 Mb

W Vista > 1024 Mb

W 7 > 768 Mb

Choose any of your liking :

Linux runs with a SWAP file... no problem if you disable it with 8 Gb

That's new...

Don't forget that from Windows 7 on, MS corporated heavily with the NSA.

You are not allowed to wipe everything... that's why from the XP timeline, real defragmentation and deletion does not exist, everything, even defragmentation, can be reversed.

If you don't believe me, try to find the pagefile specs so you can read what's put inside.

You can't, as it is encrypted with a private key only NSA and MS have.

Try Linux Mint... you'll love it.
