ICM Registry Suspends 1st Wave of .XXX Cybersquatters

ICM Registry has suspended .XXX registrations that appear to be in violation of "unmistakable, blatant" cybersquatting.

BusinessWeek.xxx, CNBC.xxx, GeoCities.xxx, Nextag.xxx, Snapfish.xxx, VerizonWireless.xxx, WashingtonPost.xxx and GayRoom.xxx, among others, were cited as sites that were registered against policy.

It was ICM Registry's first announcement on cybersquatting incidences since general registration began last week.

"We will not tolerate nefarious conduct and will exercise our right to take appropriate action when we detect widespread repeat patterns of cyber-squatting activity," said Stuart Lawley, who leads .XXX operator ICM Registry. "Would-be cyber-squatters are on notice ? neither ICM Registry nor the .XXX community will be complicit in the theft or abuse of intellectual property."

Lawley said that the rights protections built into its agreement with registrants gives the registry tools to combat malicious conduct.

In addition to its authentication policy, its Rapid Evaluation Service takes immediate action on clear abuse of well-known, distinctive registered trademarks. .XXX also has a dispute resolution process.

And yet .xxx has been sold on the basis to stop people Cybersquatting.

You would think they would have told the thousands panic buying the .xxx domain names that they could save there cash.

Its almost as if they were only interested in gewtting lots of money from people.

LOL of course after these squatters paid the money for dubious domain names which ICM should have spotted from the get go and not allowed them to register...

You would think ICM Registry would tell those selling .xxx not to use 'fear' in there selling.

yet most seem to be saying, buy the .xxx domain or somone may cybersquot it.

in fact its almost as if they are saying to people, go out and buy .xxx as you can cybersquot.

Again its amost as if ICM Registry are just after making big bucks quick. And I am sure they are not.

And so begins the lawsuits from the cybersquatters against .XXX.

As I said before, biggest money makers in this will be the lawyers.

One thing is if somone takes your name or even a domain that sounds like yours, just complain to ICM Registry.

If they do not remove the .xxx from that person, then post all over on blogs and stuff and say ICM Registry alowes cybersquotting even though they said they did not.

you could have some real fun with that.

does porn.com own porn.xxx, if not they could make a real fuss about it i would think.

I love this statement "We will not tolerate nefarious conduct"

Coming from ICM, this is laughable....

isn't it technically cybersquatting if microsoft buys it's .xxx and doesn't put up a porn site?

There is no excuse period for domains like gayroom.xxx to be taken back. Sure it may be a popular site on the .com but so is sex.com, porn.com, webcams.com, girls.com and a million other non trademarkable phrases.

Not true. Sex, porn, webcam, girls are all generic terms. Gayroom is a brand like barely legal or Met Art. Due to the combination of words that make it a specific mark it is treated different the generic terms.
