Beautiful as in green - tons of open space, parkland, trails, water, bike paths. A short drive in any direction and you're in the country. The worlds largest urban farm. The canal. Gatineau park just across the river. Sure it doesn't have the mountains and ocean like Vancouver but it is way cheaper to live.

Granted the nightlife isn't as good as Montreal or Toronto but some people are looking for more than just nightlife. Overall Ottawa consistently ranks as one of the top cities in the world for quality of life.

Anyways, to each their own.

I've lived in Toronto all my life. I like it here.

We're culturally diverse and have plenty of sports teams.

There are plenty of towns around the Greater Toronto area that are really nice, and the transit system can be better than driving.

Lots of good feedback. I have to dig more into the visa issue, and find out if I'm paying U.S. and Canadian taxes in excess of 60%, LOL.

I did not, but I live in a town that is half the size of Ottawa and I there is more than plenty nightlife (like at least 5 decent nightclubs, many decent and lively pubs and some concerts every now and then). How does Ottawa look like? Even less than that?

It is a conservative city but still has a decent nightlife if you like Pubs and bars. It is not a nightclub city. The market is a nice little area.

Haven't read all the comments but, my vote goes for Montreal (of course).

Cultural diversity, everyone in the city speaks english - so you'd have no trouble at all.
Food is excellent, lots of artsy shops/stores all around.
It's the city for Festivals ! : Just for laugh Festival, Jazz fest, Fantasia festival, African nights festival, World film festival....etc you get the idea.

It's an easy 6-7 drive to NYC, Toronto, Maine etc

You're 1-2 hours away from JayPeak (vermont) and Lake Placid & Adirondacks mountains, so if you like winter sports, you'll be well served. We have Tremblant too but not enough powder for me compared to the other resorts.

So shopping, skiing, surfing, hiking... everything is covered ;)

If you like your sports, well Montreal is all about Hockey (yes ok, we're a bit over the top with it but we totally assume it) lol

Prices for houses are half the price of Toronto and Vancouver's market - that's a plus.
Food + clothes will be more expensive than Florida for sure, but that's the same for everywhere in Canada.

So that's about it for now.
The french accent will also surely seduce you

You're so right; We joke and say they roll in the sidewalks at 1am- it's just so dead.
It's all government workers there. Not much to do other than visit.

Oppressive heat eight months out of the year. The fact that you're in the minority if you're able to speak English properly. Every fucking weirdo from the east coast seems to find their way down to Florida(no offense if you're from the east coast); mix that with immigrants from every third world latin shithole and throw in the shitkicking redneck natives, and you've got a melting pot of the worst kind. People drive like complete fucking idiots because they got their license in some straw hut in Columbia or they're 107 years old and legally blind. I Hate it there. Hate it!!!!!!!!!!! I mean, it's alright for a vacation or to stay for the winter, maybe, but fuck living there long term. The only thing that's great about it is the fishing.

Why don't you move to Maine? It's got all the natural beauty of Canada, and it's probably a lot cheaper. You can eat lobster with drawn butter everyday. Go fly fishing for steelheads and rainbow trout. Hunt all kinds of game: blackbear, Moose, huge whitetails. Go skiing and snowboarding. Maine is where it's at; I would love to live there someday. I'd much rather put up with the clannish Maine Yankees who don't like people from "away" as they put it, than the dregs of humanity that inhabit South Florida.
I agree, I was planning to move to florida, been there for a while and I felt like a tourist... I stayed at one of the best areas in trump towers which was nice, but if you go anywhere else it's a dump and they all speak Spanish, even at the gas stations they were talking to me in spanish, fucking crazy.... went to walmart and red lobster 10 mins away from collins ave. and 90% of people black or spanish... the only thing I liked is weather and ocean, but I heard locals complain that during summer it's way too hot and get's old fast... cloths are cheap though, I loaded up 10k worth lol will last me for a while

I was just reading some FAQ's about Nunavut last night. Kinda hard to read since the designer put their text on that clashing background... But if you have firefox webmaster tools installed, just disable the bg image.

Now now...be nice
(Montreal is still nothing compared to Europeans and their soccer fans- they will DESTROY whatever is in their way if their team looses lol)

Cammalleri was in LOVE with Montreal. Players actually love to play here, the fans are always so into it and players are instant stars - trust me, they like the immediate recognition.
Journalists are pretty aggressive and harassing with the players tho, I give you that.
But that's another subject.

I grew up in Toronto and I've lived in Montreal for all my adult life. I love both cities... It's like apples and oranges. Montreal is ridiculously cheap, alive with very accessible culture and has a burgeoning adult industry. Toronto is still cheaper than a lot of big cities, there are so many neighbourhoods that are absolutely gems and it's a lot bigger than Montreal, so there's more world-class city stuff.

Montreal is dominantly French, so it can be hard to get a job, but assuming you're all good in your work, that's a non-issue. It's nice to learn the language, but you could get by here without every uttering a bonjour. It's cold as fuck in the winter and humid and gross in the summer, but fall and winter are gorgeous, however short. Toronto's weather is similar, but feels slightly warmer in the winter and slightly cooler in the summer, at least in my experience.

I can't speak for Vancouver, but between these two cities, you'll be quite happy with either. I'm moving back to Toronto at the end of the month, so I made my choice, but it has more to do with friends and family. If I could have a portal between the two cities, life would be perfect.

I live in northern Alberta - it's a very cold place. Winter lasts for 8 out of 12 months a year here with temperatures in -40 Celsius range for at least two months. Seems like you;re from Florida, your best option would likely be coastal BC at least until you get a bit used to Canadian winters. BC is on a different tectonic place from the rest of Canada which makes it a very different place and thanks to warm currents from the Pacific ocean, winters are not as brutal there, but it rains a lot.

French is not a very difficult language to learn. I took a 4 week course before studying in France and was nearly fluent by the end of the summer.
