any recommendations for encryption software?

been using PGP for years. just found out they got bought out by symantac. That is a good reason to move on to different software, as Norton software is awful & i would never, ever trust that company to protect anything.

whats good & is not a front for the CIA/mossad?

GPG. The open source, not controlled by Symantec version of PGP.

TrueCrypt is good too.

PGP was bough 2 years ago BTW.

thanks. I have PGP desktop pro from several years back, & needed to reinstall it, & went to the site & just found out.

truecrypt for file storage, keepass for password storage, keepass is avail on smartphones as well so you can carry your passwords safely with you wherever you go

This. Plus Truecrypt as mentioned. On Linux there is also LUKS which allows full disk encryption (minus /boot) when used with lvm2. It's powerful and you can't beat the price.

Indeed GPG is a direct replacement for PGP and it's been inspected by thousands of users like myself, so we know there are no backdoors.

For the other two thousand uses of encryption for PGP / GPG isn't appropriate, what IS appropriate depends entirely on the application.
