Here's my dead friend playing a Door's song - as made famous in the movie "RoadHouse"

I played in Jeff Healey's bar a LOT before he died. I can't even count the number of times. Never played there once after he passed, though - I don't even know if the place still exists.

What a sweetheart this man was - and what a beautiful, appreciative audience filled his club week after week.

When Jeff was in the club, he was never judgemental. He was always so filled with passion, and he was always so enthusiastic. He would sit and listen to whatever band he hired, and - even though he was the boss - he would jump up on stage, jam with you, and just smile endlessly while he was doing it. He wouldn't even play a guitar solo - he just always wanted to PLAY. With the biggest fucking shit-eating grin in the history of the world.

He would sit on stage and vamp, and constantly smile - making you feel like you were the greatest guitar player ever. Even if - like me - you aren't...

This is a beautiful man. A stunning musician. A pure soul. Fuck, I miss him... Its been a long time. As a guitar player? The man was batshit insane - even if he did use cheap-ass Squires...

R.I.P Jeff. I love you, and I miss you.

You ever wonder what it would be like to take LSD (at our ripe old ages) and explore the "doors of perception" as Alister Huxley (I think) talked of?

I wouldnt go there but sometimes ya wonder. Just seen a doc on Ken Kesey the other day when he showed up in San Fran in the 60s on their tour with the Merry Pranksters. He was cruising town to town in Cali turning on groups of people.

He actually stole his acid when he worked in a mental hospital and did acid in experiments for the govt. He came to like acid so he stole some. THUS the FIRST guy to turn on the masses in I believe 1966. And the inspiration for "One flew over the cuckoo's nest" Pretty cool.

When acid was actually legal and whole groups of people were turning on.

LA Woman...the last album before Jim Morrison's untimely death in Paris.

It may sound cliche, but there is something about heading into LA after an all night drive from San Francisco, and seeing the LA city lights as this song is blaring on my sound system:

Soft Parade is genius. Also a fan of LA Woman... more a fan of the later stuff just because I think the lyrics/poetry started matching the sophistication of the instrumentation better, but I know a lot of Doors fans that would shoot me dead for holding forth with such heresy.

Recorded 7 years after his death by mixing the poetry of Jim Morrison, with music by the remaining members of the Doors, "An American Prayer", was controversial from the moment it was released. Morrison-devotees called it blasphemy (how ironic), however I liked it's jazzy feel and the erotic poetry was good (and I'm not going to lie, this album rocks when you are tripping).
