Forum Question "If you had to leave America where would you go?"
First off I am not getting kicked out of the country, but with how things are starting to look in the USA, I have this growing feeling that something isn't right, or something is going to happen. So lately I have been having the feeling like its about time to maybe look in to moving to another country.
Of course I would not leave forever, but it would be nice to get out and stay in another country and just come back here a few months out of the year, but live somewhere else. Obviously I would like to find a country that is adult industry friendly so I don't get arrested for producing video's and having models working on cam. I would like a place that is not super expensive to live, that is not a 3rd world country, and that is adult business friendly. I am sure a lot of you have traveled around or maybe even currently live in other countries. Looking forward to hearing everyones feed back.

So you want a cheap, non-Third World country with a fairly high standard of living that is somewhat tolerant of the adult business?
I have good news. You are already here!

So the USA is the only adult friendly country out there? I was curious about Domincian Rep. or something like that. Maybe Austrailia, Austria, or somewhere in Europe?

Something hasn't been "quite right" with the U.S. for a looooong time.
It's not a new condition. It began sometime around 1492. |

Dominican Republic is going to be a little more on the dangerous side. Australia is more expensive, I believe Austria is as well, as will many of your upper-level European countries. Eastern Europe will probably be one of your better bets.

Ended up back in the UK after 10 and a bit years. Hated it at first... Perfectly happy now though |

Its getting to be that way in a lot of countries...not just the U.S. We have a lot of issues to scratch our heads over here in Canada, too.

Moving out was the best decision I ever made. It was a little hard at first, but now I really can't imagine living there again unless a LOT of things change.
Finding a "porn friendly" country is easy if you're just a webmaster. But if you plan on producing porn, your choices are limited. And as someone who has been around a bit, I can tell you with 100% certainty that what you will get away from in the USA, you will pick up something else in another country to replace it. For example, you may not live in a borderline police state anymore, but you may end up living in a place where the police don't help you at all when you need them. You may not have to worry about politics and the future of your nation, but the locals in your new location may not like you very much. You may get away from everyone and their mother legally owning a gun, and live in a place where it is forbidden only for foreigners to own one. And so on and so forth. There is no perfect place. You only exchange one set of problems for another. But if that is OK with you, what you can gain from living elsewhere far out weighs whatever bad issues you may trade. Learning a new language, new culture, and totally new geographical area is fun and keeps you learning. I suggest going somewhere for 4 - 6 months first to see if you like it. That is a decent indication to see if it's worth packing up and moving for. |

Yep. Most people think the grass will be greener. It may not be "greener" but it may be softer, taller, shorter, or even less of it. But the main thing to remember, it's still just grass. People setting off to find "paradise" probably won't find it. And if they do, it is only a matter of time before everyone else finds it too and then they are right back where they started.
I personally have no regrets at all for leaving the USA and really enjoy my life where I am now. I spent the first 30 years of my life in the USA and had literally been all over it a few times. It was fun, it was a good time, and it was comfortable, but I wanted something else. I wanted new challenges, new experiences, and just to try a new way of life. It's a big world out there, I figured to spend it in one place would be a little silly for me, considering how much I enjoy traveling and learning about the world. And though I love where I'm at now, I doubt this is where I will stay either. There are just too many places out there to experience. |

One thing I really love about Europe that sucks about America is the transportation. Over there you can jump on a high speed train and go pretty much everywhere. Here in the States we have to either spend a ton of money to fly or jump on a bus full of smelly people, or on amtrak that is a horrible bumpy, broken down, slow, expensive way to travel. In most cases its actually cheaper to fly than to jump on the train.
I guess like one of you said the best thing to do would be to spend some time over sea's first and get a feel for how things work. I guess worst case I can live in the USA but spend most of my time staying else where.

It is also getting more difficult for Americans to open bank accounts abroad. Not impossible, but more difficult. The IRS is so fucking scared you may get a penny over on them, the US gov strong arms foreign banks to hand over ALL their US citizen accounts to them or they will lose the right to invest in the USA and will get fined. It is ridiculous. Then if you get another bank account, you have to declare that bank account when you file taxes or they can fine you $10,000 for not telling them about it. To sum it up, so long as you hold that US passport, you are a labor slave to the US government no matter where you go. They do give you a nice tax break once you've been gone for a while, but you still have to file, claim your accounts, and pay taxes on money over the amount they permit every year, which is $95,100 for 2012. So if you make less than $95,100, you don't pay anything, but you still have to file. If you make more than $95,100, you pay tax on whatever amount is over. So if you made $100k, you pay tax on $4900. That is a crude example, as there are creative ways of legally doing things, but you get the idea. |

People often think somewhere else is better, when it's really just different or unknown. Once the novelty wears off it's the same old daily grind, with bad Government, bureaucracy and increasing bills to pay.
Everyone is different, but personally I think the best idea is to not live permanently in one place. I always grow sick of wherever I am eventually. |

I'm forty-three years old, and it seems the government cares a lot less about what it's citizens does on a daily basis. I can't remember the last time I spoke to a police officer, and it's easier than ever to run your own business. Information is at our finger tips, and we've been going through airport security since the beginning of air flight so it's really not that big of a deal. Maybe you need to study your history a little bit better. There was a time in our history when we thought the world would end at any moment (cold war) and National Guard was shooting unarmed students who were protesting a war we shouldn't have been in (Kent State). Don't even get me started on the Civil Rights Movement where we killed Martin Luther Kin. Now our biggest fucking fear is the local Crispy Creme closing. What's going to happen? Will they take away our guns? Will California succeed? Will Texas start a civil war? Will people riot because Obama is elected president (again?). Will the South rise again? What the fuck are you afraid of?

I've moved a lot. I've lived in Tennessee for the summer which was nice but the hillbillies really get annoying after a while. I just recently moved from Indiana to Florida. That was probably a mistake but I'm going to give it a shot. Because I'm not real fond of the cold winters in Indiana but I loved the summers. I own a house up there on a lake still so If I don't sell it I'll have a place to go back to. I'll just have to deal with the winters. Everyone is right though. The grass isn't always as green as you think it is. My suggestion... Take as many vacations all over the country as you can. It will save you money in moving costs in the long run if you move then move back home again. I've done that twice already...

Hypothetical scenario: We'll say that you made about $188,000 in 1996. You mother got really sick, so you sold your house and moved in with her to make her last few years as comfortable as possible. Say also that your younger sister has a severe mental disability because she suffered seizures as a child (in the late sixties), and you've been taking care of them both since late 1996. Late October, 1996 if you want a real, "hypothetical" date. Maybe you also have two kids in college. So... Your income goes from $188K to $100K to $70K to $40K to about $32K. Your mom dies on, oh, let's say June 20, 2010. Around about 11:31 p.m. On Father's Day. The day before summer. She does not have a will, so you hire a lawyer to straighten things out (You'll still be in court in summer 2012... It can take YEARS to get a court date here...) THEN - surprise! - Some useless, unelected "Goverment of Canada" cunt (a cunt who would be making minimum wage and would have no benefits or pension if she worked in the private sector for some random collection agency) notices that you claimed about $150,000 dollars less in income in 2011 than you did in 2006. What does this joke of a public servant do? She graciously recalculates your taxes and sends you a bill for over $200,000, and garnishes every cent that you earn. Without notice. She just takes it all... No notice. No court date. Not even a registered letter. A judge did not impose this decision - just some random CRA cunt. Hypothetical scenario: "Hi, I'm a stupid cunt. I've randomly decided over my four hour lunch break (that's why I never answer the phone or keep my appointments - I only work four hours a day and they're all considered "lunch!" Roflpension!) that you make about five times more than your accountant said you did. Sorry. I have to make you homeless and force you starve to death. " We're going to say that she never met with "you" ( She's always "In the field!", and she never replies to "your" accountant or "your" lawyer. She is NEVER in her office when you go to meet her - even if you schedule an appointment.) At least the Canadian Government provides its staff with comfy leather couches. You might not ever see the bitch, but you'll have a nice nap while waiting for her to NOT APPEAR. So, 100% of your income - gone. This unelected piece of shit has the power to 1) Deprive you of earning a living, 2) Make you homeless, and 3) Starve you to death. Just to rub salt in the wound: The Government of Canada will provide you with help and assistance if: 1) You're on welfare. 2) You're disabled. 3) You're a Sri Lankin Tamil Tiger terrorist claiming refugee status, and 4) You're in line for jail time. You're not going to jail for unpaid taxes in Canada (Mainly because the CRA just makes shit up... and our very qualified Canadian judges tend to get upset when public employees overstep their boundaries. This includes cops and Crown Attorneys. Canadian judges will not take one drip of shit from them. Judges tend to get pissed off - hypothetically speaking - when under-qualified people try to explain the law to them... It takes a true idiot to try to explain the law to a judge. We have a LOT of idiots here...) Then again, you'll get no assistance from this glorious joke of a socialist nation. You'll only get fucked... Canada thinks that being a miner for DeBeers is cutting edge technology and that selling every last ounce of our natural resources is the future of this "great" country. Self-employed? Nobody works for themselves. WTF? Join the tour. You gotta dig! Dig and sell! Just look at Haiti! Canada does not have capital punishment? Yes, we do. Unelected and over-paid bureaucrats can take everything from you in this glorious joke of a country, and they have the power to starve you to death. Not even a humane form of capitol punishment. You will go to jail for starving your cat. But our glorious overpaid bureaucrats can take everything from you - without recourse. Your job. Your income. Your house. Then you got five years in court trying to get it back. Canada is wealthy because it lets foreign corporations dig anything out of the ground and sell it. Canada gives failing corporations and corrupt countries billions of dollars a year - just for the PR. Hi! We're Canada! We're pretty... Oh, so pretty... We're VACANT!" This country elects shitholes like Paul Martin to be its Prime Minister (All of his billions were earned offshore. He never really paid any income tax. Ever.) Canada is a joke. Most of you already know that, though. Thank you for reading these totally hypothetical ramblings of a nutcase. I could go on, but I'm bored - and its all hypothetical. I can't get into specific details if I'm just making shit up, right? Yes... |

Lets see you work in adult so mainly gonna get paid in USD. 1 USD = about what 0.80 euro now? I think even for a bit it got down to 1 : 0.70. So you loose 20%-30% or so of your income in conversion if you move anywhere that has euro for currency. FL is a fairly cheap US state to live in. Its one of the 7 that has no state tax so all you get boned for is federal tax.
Like others said you just can't move to another country and call it home. If you do go to another country and live on a visa you still have to pay US taxes so no advantage. Unless you are willing to renounce your citizenship, which i suggest you don't do. Take a long hard look at your life before you make that step. I am not saying don't go for it but no matter where you live thier will always be something wrong no matter what. |
