![]() Here in Brazil we are obliged to vote. Tomorrow we have mayoral election.
The fucking government enforces compulsory voting. I'm talking about Brazil, and I don't know how things are in other countries, ok... So, here it is all fucked up. All politicians are corrupt, and I don't believe in nothing what they say. If I had the option to stay away from this, that would be amazing. So, my question is for people who lives in "free countries". If you don't need to vote, why you do such a thing? There's hope in politicians in your country? I'm just trying to understand. Nothing against any country or anyone, I love everyone. |

There are some interesting arguments for compulsory voting. One important reason is that it ensures the vote actually represents a majority of the population, and not just those who could be bothered to vote.
Can you cast a blank vote in Brazil, or are you obligated to vote for someone?

I think they have that in Australia too, or used to. If your political system is corrupt and broken, like the US system, voting is a waste of time.

Well, they do not put a gun in our face, but they say all day long on TV that it is an obligation, and if you don't vote you have a few problems to face: Who works for the government, do not get paid, and can't participate in any government related thing; For everyone, it is denied the right of requesting a new Passport or ID; Of course we can pay a small bill and we're "free again". |
