Democrats urge Obama to bypass Congress

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Top Democratic senators urged President Barack Obama on Friday to be ready to raise the debt ceiling without congressional approval in order to avert a damaging debt default.

Obama has vowed not to negotiate with Republicans on the debt ceiling.

Some analysts and Democrats believe the 14th Amendment of the Constitution gives the president the authority to raise the $16.4 trillion debt ceiling unilaterally.

They believe the Constitution gives him authority to raise it unilaterally but ignore the fact he would be ignoring it by bypassing Congress. Makes sense if you're a Democrat I guess.

Article. I. Section 8 reads The Congress shall have Power To borrow Money on the credit of the United States;

We can debate what the Constitution says and what it does not say until we are blue in the face. It says the Congress shall have the power, but it does not say the President does not have this same power.

Every time I come across the Constitution, it seems to be very vague to me.
