If i was going to get a RV this would be it.
EarthRoamer XV-HD (Ford F-650 Based)
![]() The EarthRoamer XV-HD is highly customizable and is available in lengths ranging from 19.7 feet to over 38.8 feet long and can provide comfortable belted seats and sleeping quarters for up to eight people. The four wheel drive EarthRoamer XV-HD is powered by a Cummins 6.7 liter turbo diesel engine and gets its power to the ground via an Allison transmission. Both Cummins and Allison are legendary for their quality, reliability and durability. The XV-HD has a Gross Vehicle Weight Rating of 26,000 and a fuel capacity up to 145 gallons. Several base XV-HD configurations are available including: A Four-wheel drive Xpedition Vehicle ? think of an XV-LT on steroids! A 5th wheel motor-home (also known as a totorhome) suitable for towing heavy 5th wheel horse trailer, race car trailer, camping trailers and boats. A shorter camper is built on a longer frame length truck with a 5th wheel hitch located to the rear of the camper. A toy hauler model that can carry quads, dirt bikes ? or even a small car ? in a rear garage. The rear of a longer camper is isolated from the living quarters and dedicated to garage use. The EarthRoamer XV-HD is the first Xpedition Vehicle of this size to feature a one-piece molded composite body. Besides providing better aesthetics, the one-piece, seamless, molded composite body requires no internal metal structure for support and is lighter, stronger, and more aerodynamic than FRP or SCS flat panel construction. The XV-HD camper body is manufactured with similar techniques and materials as many luxury yachts and aircraft. |

being trailer trash now, I'm exposed to all kinds of campers. Sure the moterhome is cool, but if you're an off roader, that thing is too big to be really functional. The guys I know that go off the beaten path with a camper use something like this, an off road trailer. The 4X4 trucks and jeeps pull them easy, and they go anywhere your vehicle goes if it's got off road tires on it... Plus the pop up trialers like this built for off road vehicles are only about $20,000 new - not $200,000+ for a specialty built moterhome like the one you're showing there.
yes it's nice but the real enthusiasts just use an offroad trailer and their 4x4 if you want to camp offraod, the pop up tent trailers now these days are quite impressive - they have washrooms, showers, kitchens, slideouts, heaters and A/C units, etc ![]()

pretty nice. worked financing rv's for a number of years in the past. nothing but money losers unless you really use them. industry went downhill and so did the economy. sportsmobiles are pretty nice units for smaller units. that one is hot, but would crap out on you constantly unless you are throwing money at it.

Every year for the past ten years I have threatened to do an overland trip through Africa - The company that does it uses either that one or something very similar.
Damn, you have got me thinking about it now..... I do get a taste of Africa this year though - I will see how that less epic trip goes.... |

An engine can drive some finite number of miles before it takes a shit once and for all. If the ford's always have stuff like alternators and starters and other stuff like that breaking, they are at the shop more often getting fixed and not being driven - and ergo have less miles on them and more of them are on the road.

Fuck
If I had limitless cash I'd drive a ford truck for just driving, I fucking love them But there is no reason on earth to buy one unless you just have a lot of money to waste The ford airbrake doesn't even work |

I am not weighing in on what's better, I drive a Ram because they are the least expensive, but lets be realistic, ford was the best selling truck in America for 40 years, it would kind of make sense that there are more of them on the road.

Seems rather silly.. I guess it could do ok out in a more open environment like the desert or open plains, but any wooded area it would be useless because it would never get around trees.

I've owned all three ?..
3 Chevy's ... 2 ate turbos and 1 a set of injectors. 2 Dodge/Cummins ... worst mileage and Dodge actually bought one new truck back rather than fix braking problem. 1 Ford ? no problems, regular maintenance only. . |

Wow, I suppose so, but if I was a prepper person I'd want something smaller and simpler. You can't exactly get a hold of all of those specialty parts anywhere when shit jumps off. I guess you could always buy several of them so you'd have all of the parts you might need
![]() That's it- buy one and then see if they'll sell you four more without the engine/transmission Because the cummins and allison will both be working when we're all dead |

affordable, manageable, and who wants to bring your home on every trip to the fishing spot or hunting location. reality is, I know preppers who have off road trailers for exactly that purpose. They can't afford a $300,000+ moterhome, but can use a decent 4x4 for their everyday vehicle and spend under $20,000 on an offroad pop up trailer that they can also use for family vacations. Double duty equipment that the everyday person can buy use in their every day life as well as fulfill their prepper panic mania issues with instead of just dreaming about the off road moterhome.

Sheer amount sold. How many engines & transmissions they go through to keep them on the road? Owned a few 80's & 90's Fords, and it was an annual event to replace something major on them. Never again.
