Authorities say a 3-year-old Florida boy has died after shooting himself with a gun he found in his uncle's backpack.

The shooting happened Tuesday night in a bedroom Jadarrius Speights shared with his uncle at an apartment complex in Tampa. Authorities say the uncle, 29-year-old Jeffrey D. Walker, has been charged with culpable negligence.

It wasn't immediately clear whether Walker had an attorney. His phone number was not listed and jail records didn't give a lawyer for him.

Police say he has a concealed weapons permit.

Hillsborough County sheriff's spokeswoman Debbie Carter says the uncle was not in the room when the shooting happened, but the child's parents were there. The boy was taken to a hospital where he died.

Last week, a 5-year-old Kentucky boy who received a .22-caliber rifle as a gift accidentally shot and killed his 2-year-old sister, according to state police.

damn... if only a good 3 years old boy with a gun would have been there ....

I can guarantee you that the uncle called himself a responsible gun owner and often talked about how other irresponsible gun owners are the real problem.

Like others have said, what's the big deal, kids shoot themselves dead all the time, all around the world.

I did a quick Google search to prove this and found that last month a 7 year old shot himself dead, four months ago a 4 year old shot himself dead and eight months ago a 2 year old shot himself dead...

Those events are happening all over the world, in every corner of the globe, in places as far afield as Kansas, Ohio and Utah.

So, it is your contention that the more guns there are, the better the odds that someone will be killed by one.

I'd be willing to bet that the same thing holds true for cars, showers and ice cream.
