There is a little bit of a difference here.

A more accurate statement might be:
You shouldn't carry a wallet that has your ATM card and a piece a paper with your ATM card Pin written down on it in it because it could get stolen.

If she was really worried about people seeing them she shouldn't have left them on a computer that is connected to the internet. She could have put them on a zip drive and they would have been safe from prying eyes.

If GF Revenge was real, then yeah perhaps it might affect them.

Canada is trying to introduce a law to protect against things like this. A young girl had photos or a video shared online (I think that is what the article said, not 100% sure, and not a lawyer), and they want to pass laws to protect against the sharing of sexual images without consent because, the girl who's photos were shared online, killed herself.

Isn't the problem not with the posting of these images, but (some sites) identifying the people in the photos, or posting their info along with the photos? Not sure what the defense is for the latter.

This case has nothing to do with revenge porn sites like gf revenge which are fake. It has to do with revenge porn sites like forums where people actually post real revenge porn, such as, 4chan.
