The color palette, some of the shot choices. I'm back in school studying cinematography with the intention of being a Camera Operator / DP. So for me, I don't often get as engrossed in the story as I do with regards to the choices the DP made for shooting the film.

Hopefully the higher budget doesn't screw things up. I like Jodie Foster, unfortunately she is usually the best thing about the movies she's in. Sounds from the plot summary it's Apartheid In Space.

I've not seen that yet either, your review of it sounds like a 7/10. If films are rated 7/10 or below in IMDB I usually give them a miss, love watching great films & TV Shows but I can't stand watching anything now that's just ok. I don't like watching things that are just average
Actually, more like 6.5-6.9. I've seen quote a few 6-7 IMDB range movies that I quite enjoy though. I think there's often a difference between a good movie and an enjoyable one.

I'd honestly put it up there with Terminator 3 for how lazy and retarded the plot was! When I pay good money and see crap like that in the theatre I understand why a lot of people download films for free.

I see James Cameron is Directing/Writing Terminator 5 or as I will strictly refer to it, Terminator 3!

He better not fuck it up
Most T2 fans seem to hate T3 because it's child-friendly, but for me that happened in T2. The Terminator is one of my favorite movies; an efficient, no-bullshit, low-budget 80s scifi cult movie. T2 was IMNSHO an overlong, overblown Hollywood remake of The Terminator, making every mistake Cameron avoided in the first movie.

Remember the one guy who is better than us all; the savior of mankind? He's some annoying kid who suffers from not enough kicks to the nuts in his short life. Remember the bad-ass unstoppable killing machine that can't be bargained with or reasoned with? He's the kid's step-dad.

The bad guy this time is some skinny dude who can conveniently morph into anything at all (but doesn't decide to simply become an atom bomb, within half a mile of Connor), even though it makes even less sense than time machines, which BTW, he uses "no problemo" despite being entirely made of metal and the machine not allowing anything metallic through it OMFGsjfhasdlhfkasdjks

I don't even mind Terminator 3. In fact I kinda like that it pisses off T2 fans. At least we have Kristanna Loken and Clare Danes to look at, rather than Linda Hamilton's sweaty biceps and tranny shoulders.

We can perhaps both agree that T4 was... not even worth getting angry at.

His second film Source Code (2011) I thought was a better film personally
I liked Source Code, though I can't stop myself being irritated that whatever "source code" referred to in the movie (can't remember), it wasn't source code.

LOL Nah just sounds like you have high standards!
See above about 6/10 movies.

"Guns and explosives have chemicals, moving parts. It doesn't verk that way."

The first two Terminator movies are both amazing in my eyes. I've come to appreciate the first film now that I'm older, but both of them are still classics.

I think this is the reason I disliked it. It seems too self-consciously acted and directed. You're never allowed to forget it's a film, because the performances are too weird and stilted. The pauses in/after/before dialogue in particular are just ludicrous.

I can see why people might like it in 'technical' terms though, as you're talking about, and the first five minutes are great.

It's interesting you mention "technical" terms. That was one of the main reasons I hated it. Being a bit of a music fan, and being blessed with sight.

When you have the driver, going along a road with both hands on the steering, and you're adding in gear change noises for "effect" I'm afraid that was just plain stupid in my eyes.

How many reverse gears did that car have? I read somewhere stunt cars sometimes have 2 or 3 reverse gears, I haven't bothered looking into that, it made me laugh, but I didn't think it was supposed to be a comedy.

Ryan baby goose was just plain shit in it aswell, Gangster Squad was a lot better IMO, but I'm not saying that was great either. I found that more entertaining, and speaking of visuals, I enjoyed that movie more in that apsect aswell.

I also disliked the music, if that's what you're saying, even though I know most people cite it as something they like, even people I know who hated the movie. IIRC it was just 80s retro. If I wanna hear 80s (and I do like a ton of 80s stuff) there's an entire decade of the real thing on Youtube.

I love reading people picking apart movies for technical inaccuracies. I'm not a car nerd but I did think in a movie called Drive, about a stunt Driver who moonlights as a getaway Driver, there wasn't as much Driving as I expected.

I can't pretend I like seeing Ryan Gosling's name on a movie, but I agree about Gangster Squad. I mentioned that I often enjoy 6-7 (IMDB) rated movies, and that's one of them.

I disagree, I loved it. If I have any complaint about the three, it's The Dark Night was a little strung out at various points.

It'll probably have a very similar theme to District 9, which I don't mind as long as it's good!

Sharlto Copley is starring in this film too "Fucking Prawns!"

It's really my own fault that I got annoyed after paying money to see that crap, when a directors name is something like McG that's never a good sign

Too many characters and plots to cram into 2.5 hours, audiences don't have the attention span for anything longer these days. IMO he would have needed 3.5 hours to let the story really flow but I do agree it's not the best of the trilogy. Batman Begins was the best of the three.

I still feel he did a good job at maintaining a very high standard throughout the trilogy which I respect because there are very few trilogies where all the films are really good.

Katie Holmes being played by Maggie Gyllenhaal annoyed me, really fucked with the continuity of the film replacing one of the main actors

The only reason I accepted that was because Katie drives me nuts, LOL. Otherwise I would agree 100%. Do not like how Ironman removed Terrence Howard!

Very well put! That's what I hated about Drive too!

The music sucked big time! I was born in the 80s and there is a lot of great music they could have added from the 80s to give the film an authentic 80s feel.

He's one of the most overrated actors in Hollywood, the only film where I've enjoyed his performance was in Fracture (2007)

Oh I hate her too I just felt that entire story line in the second film was pointless because for half the film you're trying to figure out who this uglier Katie Holmes character is, so by the time the film reaches it's conclusion it could never have had the same impact it would have had if Katie Holmes was playing her role in the film.

Personally I just would have cut that entire story line out of the film to avoid that nonsense!

Of coarse that could never have worked because I'm sure the Nolan brothers would have spent years writing the film and then after they found out Katie Holmes couldn't reprise her role as Rachel Dawes

You just brought up an excellent point. We should have seen Katie Holmes on fire!

Yeah, I wouldn't watch a movie just for the music (obviously).

I think the technical stuff is what made it worse, I think if a movie is interesting, you don't really notice that sort of thing. But, because it was already grating on me, when those things started creeping in, it just made it look like a joke in my eyes.

I even find a few movies on IMDB that are rated as low as 4/10 that I like, after Drive, I no longer trust the ratings on there as much anyway .
