So Croatia joined the EU... I feel pity for you guys!

Taxes will grow every day, millions of Kuna will be thrown out the window on some mega-useless EU projects, you'll get hit everyday but all sort of EU regulations, small private business will close down in a very short time because of the impossibility to respect all EU laws and regulations for their domain of activity, the daily living price will rise instantly, you'll no longer be a Sovereign state but rather a state ruled my Merkel....

but don't worry, just enjoy the moment, Croatians have centuries ahead to regret it...

This is true. Poland for instance got a shitload of money for roads and for billions of euros in grants for small business development (meaning you can write up a business plan and get free money from the EU). Croatia will probably get the same.

That you later pay in trillions made up of loans.... Croatia will probably get the same.

Even the older members of the EU are complaining about being to hard to stay in the EU...

Of course, one could say that Italy, Spain, Portugal, Ireland, Greece etc, did not knew hot to handle finances and money but then if all the countries with financial problems would disappear from the EU , who would it be left, Germany alone (which it should be said is complaining about the fact that it pays the bill of poorer countries)?

Better roads, financial aid for many of their industry sectors, their tourism (huge part of their economy) will probably start growing with at least 10% per year. And if you want to watch Man United live, all you need is a few hundred bucks for a plane ticket, no standing in line for visas and all that crap.

The EU with all its shit and problems has no alternative, collectively, the EU is the biggest economy in the World and that gives us a lot of leverage. The reason everybody and their cousins are bitching is because they are pussies, the economy got bad, people lost jobs, yeah, it is tough ... guess what, man up, Europe has seen much worse.

Another country that has been sold down the river by their politicians!

Enjoy the pitance you receive in blood money for the financial slavery of your futures, your children's futures and your children's, children's futures

Have a conversation with the Irish, Greek, Spanish, Italians, Portugese etc about how those EU grants are working out for them now!

"EU funds" are myth, very few individuals or companies can access them and it takes a lot of paperwork to get it done. If you live in countries where corruption is high only certain "applicants" are qualified to get the so called "EU funds".

On the other hands I wonder how many Croatian Holiday Pensions will manage to comply with the never ending regulations regarding holiday Pensions...

Wrong. Almost everybody from cheaper EU that goes to UK finds a job (minimum wage in fabric or similar). Those statistics means nothing, as this is different matter - there are always minimum wage work for EU immigrants.

i am still a big fan of the EU besides all negative things that of course exist as well.

but opposed to the young folks on here, i remember how it was before - and no, not everything was better in the past

so: welcome Croatia!

The two countries that received the most EU money where Ireland and Portugal :

Ireland went from being one of the poorest countries to being the second richest in the EU, despite the recession they are still third.

Portugal who was at the bottom with Ireland doubled their GDP in the 10+ years since joining. Spain profited too but spent too much on megalomaniac projects.

Italy and Greece are just too corrupt to manage any sort of funds.

If some thought the party would last forever and didn't manage to put money aside during the Boom years you can't really blame the Eu for that

It is just strange that Croats who fought a bloody war for independence now voluntarily sacrifice that independence for EU. Guess this was the wish of the young ones.

States with an average salary of 800 EUR can hardly play a game with states where the average is 3000 EUR. The whole idea behind EU is stupid.

I hope their dictatorship falls very soon. Fuckin hate their stupid laws.

yes, the UK jobs market is like internet marketing, all was rosy until the tubes and third worlders turned up happy to work for scraps. now just about every job is minimum wage as the east Europeans will do any job for less than the original going rate.

The EU is a fuckfest and the quicker we get our long promised referendum the better.

You are 100% right, as soon as you pull out of the EU, everything will be honey and roses, all the immigrants will come from your ex-colonies (no more scary Eastern Europeans), and your standard of living will double in a year or less. Good luck

Granted Ireland spent a lot of their EU grant money wisely on infrastructure I'll give you that. Most of that economic growth was tied into the housing bubble and an unsustainable reliance on the construction industry that completely collapsed when the credit crunch hit.

Ireland also had one of if not the biggest housing bubble in the EU which has resulted in a catastrophic crash in prices.

Irish banks are ALL insolvent and the next EU bailout will most likely result in depositors loosing their savings, the Cyprus incident was pretty much a blueprint for future EU terms and conditions for bailouts.

Irish emigration is now at highest point since the Famine.

None of this reckless lending through MBS was the fault of the people yet everyone in the EU is paying for it through crazy austerity measures and a big fall in living standards.

The whole thing is corrupt to the core, this isn't just about a couple of countries being corrupt. Every single one of us 503,492,041 citizens of the EU will pay for the corruption and greed by the bankers and politicians that have caused this financial collapse.

Profited by gaining access to the single biggest market in the World, wealth is something that you create, it isn't a pizza, where if country A takes bigger slice, country B will be left with the smaller one.

I'm not pro-EU but what does Irish banks lending to Irish people have to do with the EU?

If anything it's the very British obsession with property and the aspirational ?housing ladder? that fueled some of the madness in many European countries.

Why do you think we now have things like the EDL and UKIP?
Immigration in the UK is way, way past saturation point, no matter where they are from.

Right... they gain access to... they benefit from... they this and they that. But overall, what is in it for France or Germany or Sweden? How do they benefit? One more country with a vote to stifle legislation. One more country to complain about France and Germany and others not adhering to tax and budget requirements.... one more country to ship its workouts out to work cheaper etc etc etc.

What exactly do you like in the EU model? The only good thing I see there is a border-less area. This could be done on the the base of the existing Schengen zone.

On the other hand, the common economical model for so many absolutely different countries is a way to nowhere. You (the EU guys) just re-constructed the USSR ver. 2.0.

Some brainwashed morons here think that the USSR was dissolved because the "epic win of the USA during the Cold War". That's just a stupid home-brew fairytale for various rednecks, hippies and former marines. The real reason was its non-organic structure, when absolutely different nations were enforced to live according to the same laws. Furthermore, a few republics (equivalent to the EU countries) were obligated to support all others where people were so fuckin' lazy (had "different traditions and mentality") to work on the same level (look how different is the unemployment rate in various EU countries). This is why the Soviet people got tired of that bullshit (yeah it took for us more than 70 to realize) and they said "NO" to the USSR during the state referendum in 1991.

Those who actually work is not UK's biggest problem. Biggest problem is african/arabic/paki etc immigrants who just breed and gets social payouts. Its like a job for thm because it is pretty easy to live of government handouts in UK.

like i said - i dont share the negative thoughts so many people have about the EU

i can move around (and not just travel) without any restrictions in now 28 countries, pay in many of those with the same currency and save a lot of time and money on not having to do tax declarations and all that nonsense.

Countries like CZ, PL etc. have profited enormously from the EU, i just need to look outside my window

and now i would like to hear who actually is negatively affected by the EU

anyone is personally poorer now than before?

Let's see how long Germany and France will feed Greeks and others from their own pocket. I have a supermarket on the first level in my condo, so there will be no problem with a fresh and hot popcorn
