Really? I dunno, I don't care about artists' personal lives myself. I just check out their stuff, their "output". Since I'm not LGBT myself, I may be insensitive to those people's personal issues over all, and I don't denigrate someone like Ellen Page's coming out, or the rumours John Travolta or Tom Cruise being gay, as if those things matter to me. In this case she was at an event put on the by the Human Rights Campaign and she was speaking to a group of counselors and people who help gay kids who are having trouble with their families/schools etc when they come out.

For them having an Oscar nominated actress who has been in some very big movies say this publicly can be a big deal. It helps show that there are a lot of gay people out there, not just the effeminate kid in gym class that everyone thinks is strange.

In a perfect world it wouldn't matter. You would be who you want to be, love who you want to love, and marry who you want to marry, but that is not the world we live in. There are many places in this country where being gay is a big deal. People are killed and assaulted just because they are gay.

To me what she did would be attention grabbing if she called a press conference and announced it or was presenting at an awards show and said it or something like that. But telling it to a group of people whose work she admires is different. I'm sure she knew it would become a big story (at least for a few days), but to me it didn't come off as being a publicity stunt.

I posted my view that I disagree with our youth being prompted by celebrities to lead sexuality based lifestyles as youth- regardless of their sexuality and kane took issue with that.
