Met him once. Back in '82, before his big comeback with "up where we belong". He was in town to play a gig at the Red River Exhibition, a giant fair that comes through every year in June. I was working at a local hotel at the time, he and a couple of his backup singer girls wandered down to the lobby. I went up and had a brief chat with him. All of the hotel staff present were starstruck, whispering about how he was at Woodstock and what a music legend he was.
I recall he and his ladies all marvelling at how it was still light out at 10:00 pm 'up here in Canada'. One of a kind. RIP Joe.
