Is This The Future Of F1 ?? [pics]

Quote:
Ferrari have released images of a ?concept? design, a cross between their 2015 challenger and a supercar.
They have called on their fans to voice their opinion, and, despite its seemingly radical nature compared to today's cars, the Maranello marque insist few changes to the current regulations would be required for F1 to venture down such a route.

Explaining the release of the pictures, Ferrari said via their website: ?Would it be possible to come up with an F1 car which not only is technologically advanced, but also captivating to the eye and aggressive-looking? And could this be made without having to overturn the current technical rules?
?At Ferrari, we believe so. Let us introduce you to the ?concept design? that was conceived by our design studio together with the Scuderia?s aero department.
?Minimal changes give the car a look that is way different from what have been familiar with so far.
?Our challenge was to create something that was ? to put it short ? better looking.?

Ferrari's current car for the new season:

DEar Ferrari/Scuderia,

no auto sports cars look good. none. not f1, not le mans, not NASCAR, not NHRA, not one.

but they are all fantastic in their own right.

i bet Ferrari found an aerodynamic edge and can't use it due to rules, so they briliantly decide to go to their legions of fans with a gorgeous car with the silly idea F1 is now about beautiful cars. Here's an idea, why not make it more about the drivers again, you know like in the olden days. Less tires shenanigans and more driving ability. OH, and maybe take a few sponsor stickers off your cars, you might find they look better.

your's,

a not a huge F1 fan.

Don't expect too much innovation there if you have an old and grumpy guy being in charge of it. Cars were getting more and more ugly design wise due to "rules and regulations".

I am very much into racing but it seems in F1 they forgot what it was all about and money and politics took over...

sexy, but what happens to all sexy concepts? They become ugly real models
And when we are talking about f1 it is even harder to turn it into reality.

Sponsors and money in general in F1 is as important as it has ever been. You only have to look at some of the problems that 2 or 3 teams ran into last year to see that. So the stickers and sponsors won't be disappearing any time soon...

Of course I wasn't being realistic in that rant. money destroyed F1. the stickers represent that, both literally and figuratively. and they also do in fact make not attractive cars even less attractive. Team Ferrari spends, what, $700 million a year on F1.

A bit of info...

Team Budget 2013
Ferrari £250 million
Red Bull £235.5 million
McLaren £160 million
Mercedes £160 million
Lotus £130 million
Force India £100 million
Williams £90 million
Sauber £90 million
Toro Rosso £70 million
Caterham £65 million
Marussia £51 million

"Probably the highest spending teams spend three or four times the money of those other teams. Is that sustainable and healthy? No. ... So I see that major stakeholders are pushing towards a more sustainable F1, a more balanced F1, in terms of financial resources".

Last October, according to Tom Cary of The Telegraph, CVC, "Formula One’s largest single shareholder, took a $865 million (£538 million) dividend in 2012," and that, "It is believed that CVC, who paid roughly $1 billion (£620 million) for the sport back in 2006, has now gained more than $2 billion (£1.24 billion) from the sport in the last 24 months."

no chance of that car or anything like it ever appearing on the F1 grid, those guys are as secretive as the US military are over Area 51. if any one part of that car was destined to go onto a future F1 car than the concept would not have been released to the public.

I like it, because it puts the body out as wide as the wheels. It's much better to break a bit of body work that destroy the suspension when they have wheel to wheel contact.

It's just a very sexy concept. The teams have to stick to very strict FIA rules, so the way a car is built in the future really doesn't depend on the individual teams.

F1 needs to take a page from the world of pro fighting. For centuries there was boxing with it's rules and structured limitations. Tae Kwon Do same thing. Rules. Every style of martial arts had it's limiting factors. Then along comes this groundswell wave out of the blue called 'Ultimate Fighting'.... and ka-blammo. A huge new interest around the world in UFC occurs. They blew most of the rules out the door to the tune of massive success.

I propose a new F1 style of racing. UF1. Let them build the best car imagineable. May the fastest most maneuverable car and best driver win. I'd watch something like that over today's F1 any day. (fact is I don't watch F1 except for highlights, as to me it's basically the same thing over and over every year, every race. UF1 would/might change all that)

Am I kidding? I must be. Or I haven't had enough coffee yet. You decide.
