The American Lung Association's advice to smokers is as follows:

"The American Lung Association is troubled about unproven claims that e-cigarettes can be used to help smokers quit. The FDA's Center for Drug Evaluation and Research has not approved any e-cigarette as a safe and effective method to help smokers quit. When smokers are ready to quit, they should call 1-800-QUIT-NOW or talk with their doctors about using one of the seven FDA-approved medications proven to be safe and effective in helping smokers quit."

The American Lung Association makes money from the guilt-tax collected from the big Tobacco companies since the master settlement agreement, '99 or '98.

So now, if tobacco disappeared from the world, the ALA would disappear and its rich millionaire owners would have to use food stamps.

E-cigs are just changing the delivery system for nicotine.

Nicotine is the highly addictive (some studies show more so than heroin) and is the reason people continue to smoke long after they stop enjoying it and the negatives outweigh the positives.

Switching to this alternative delivery system is no different than using nicotine patches. Just a different delivery system.

Would you expect to use a nicotine patch for the rest of your life? No - most people would consider that stupid.

Cold turkey is the proven most effective way of actually stopping nicotine addition/smoking.

If I can do it then anyone can do it! Good luck to all those trying!

Most e-products are mostly marketing towards recreational use to basically have their users buy as much "juice" as they can from them to make the most money.
If you actually work at it and reduce the amount of juice daily and nicotine amount to eventually 0 then it'll work. If not, it can actually be worse than cigarettes in some cases.

None of those things are a problem with e-cigs. You can walk stairs, smell, your teeth don't stain, etc. You're inhaling vapor and nicotine, which is natural and found in many things.

Vapor ≠ Smoke.

Also, nicotine is the most addictive substance on the planet. Giving up sex is easier for some people.

I know quite a few people who quit smoking from e-cigarettes and if you haven't dealt with addiction then you wouldn't know how it is for them anyways.

Nicotine causes circulation constriction of the arterial lumen in your arteries and that promotes arteriosclerosis, blood clot formation, high blood pressure (caused in part by the narrowing of the lumen (interior tubular diameter of the arteries)) and coronary heart disease. Nicotine users are 10 times more likely to develop PAD (peripheral artery disease) -- blood clots and poor circulation that can cause amputation ) starting in your 50s.

Nicotine will kill you but it wont give you lung cancer. So how would you prefer to hasten your life?

I haven't smoked for 4 years now I smoked cigarettes for 40 some years. It took me 2 years to get over the occasional nicotine ''jones'' and 9 months to get over the hourly urges -- it is not easy to stop an addiction. With ecigs you are just altering the intake method to satisfy your nicotine addiction and all the bad effects of nicotine consumption just continue.

So, if you want to keep smoking or vaping -- make sure you have insurance to pay for the medical treatment you may need -- it ain't cheap ...

You do realize nicotine is present in cauliflower, tomatoes, eggplant, potatoes, and other foods?

Its not the nicotine thats dangerous, its the 4000 other chemicals in cigarettes, including tar, carbon monoxide, as well as formaldehyde, ammonia, hydrogen cyanide, arsenic, and DDT. Couldnt be those things that are killing people, could it?

I just got back for Hong Kong. People in Hong Kong laugh at Americans for using their totally unregulated vape juice. Vape Juice can be made from anything they want and long as it smells good Americans will buy it. How can people tell you something is safe when they don't even know what is in it?

The retailer I buy my vape juice from has all their formulas independently lab tested and certified.

But I fully support standardized regulation, monitoring and lab testing of the e-juice across the industry. I've seen several bricks-'n-mortar stores simply mixing their liquids in a back room (so to speak)...which raises some safety and quality concerns. I won't deal with these types of retailers.

I've watched a few DIY youtube vids on mixing your own - it's easy. But handling the nic liquid, safety precautions and proper measuring takes attention to detail...not something I'd want a disgruntled, minimum wage, irresponsible person doing in a back room of a store.

Just quit eh? I really hate people saying that stupid saying. If it was that easy to just quit then NO one in their right mind would be still smoking. What helps make it harder is it's around everywhere. You go to the store they are selling it, you just walk around or go to a park there are people smoking.

And the argument that e-cigs are as bad as regular cigs and therefore should also be banned everywhere (like bars) is complete lunacy. You CANNOT get CANCER from secondhand.....VAPOR.
