:stop U.S. Marines crack down on trespassers; confiscate 45 mountain bikes

some of you bitched about border security. this is part of the price.

hotlinked

The U.S. Marines this past weekend set up roadblocks on a popular San Diego County trail to deliver a message to mountain bikers that trespassing will not be tolerated on military property.

On Saturday and Sunday, Marines issued 50 tickets and confiscated 45 mountain bikes within the eastern boundary of Marine Corps Air Station Miramar, in the Scripps Ranch area.

The encounters were somewhat intimidating, as the Marines wore flight suits and toted weapons.

So we will enforce border rules on citizens, just not on foreign nationals... Nice...

When I was in the Marines.... There was zero security. When I was stationed on Camp Geiger there was a path from the nearest strip club to our barracks that avoided the check point.

How is international border security and illegal aliens related with citizens trespassing military bases?

Being a stereotypical black person confused about rules being enforced is racist

They could have issued tickets and let them keep their bikes. it's a pretty shit thing to do, to go all hardcore out of the blue. Many of those guys bikes will be in the $2k to $3k range.

Piss poor way to handle it, if they haven't been warned before..

Yeah, hoardes of people riding past signage every 59 feet warning they could be shot should be enforced worth "tickets". LOL

"Lt. Matthew Gregory told the Union-Tribune that trespassing has become a serious issue and that efforts have been stepped up to warn bikers and hikers about off-limits zones."

"Because of frequent weapons activities, trespassers face “potentially life-threatening danger,” Gregory said"

"Gregory told the San Diego Reader: “I feel like we’ve done our due diligence. We’ve let people know, we put signs out there, and we’ve had patrols warning people to stay off our base. It’s a security issue for us, and a safety issue for them.”

"The Marines claim that warning signs are placed prominently and strategically, but Hiley said his group did not see any signs."

that is how I feel too. Why take the bikes? Are they going to be given to Mexican drug lords or something? Is this Fast and Furious 2?

They knew they were on a military base.

The Air Force does the same thing when you trespass on the land where Area 51 is located. They show no mercy.

We should put up warning signs saying "do not terrorize" for terrorists and then ticket anyone who blows people up.

my post was a joke but at the same time here's my take. It sounds like they have been letting people bike on their property for a longtime and now all the sudden they decide to make a example of these people and fine and take their bikes. I hate this type of justice. Why should these people have their bikes taken away from them when they've allowed others to do the same thing for years or decades? Ticket them for sure and warn them if you do it again we will take your bike.
