Brian Montague, with the Vancouver Police. ?Officers thought the behaviour of the operator was strange and watched as he drove through an alley and back out to Fraser before travelling at a high rate of speed southbound weaving through traffic and pedestrians.?

Montague said attempts to stop the driver failed and he fled from a marked police car on 43rd Avenue. He said the driver then continued on ?at a high rate of speed? to Prince Edward Street and past MacDonald Park where many people were out and about.

?Officers watched from a distance as the motorcycle continued southbound, blowing through the stop sign at 49th, past another park and through another stop sign at 57 Avenue,? said Montague. ?The motorcycle was eventually seen by police turning into the parking lot near Fraser Street and Kent Avenue.?

?The operator of the motorbike had fled from and was evading police. He was not only putting his life, but the life of many others at risk of injury or death by operating a vehicle in that manner which is a criminal offence. The driver was quickly arrested to ensure there was no continued danger to the public. Police don?t have to use force when someone complies with the directions of officers.?

I have little use for cops - but perhaps he shouldn't have driven like an asshole and placed himself in a position to get treated this way.

Years ago I went through a full felony stop.

I was driving my Mustang Mach 1 from Phoenix to SoCal on a Friday night just after dark. I wasn't in a hurry, but I was stuck in a patch of traffic and some jack ass behind me was tailgating me like a dick. I tried slowing down, tapping the brakes, down shifting, nothing. When I got clear of the traffic I punched it, right up to 120 mph or so. I had my windows tinted limo dark, and had no idea I was pulling away from a marked highway patrol car. The cop thought I must have drugs or a dead body in the trunk and called for back up. The end result was a full felony stop, guns drawn, etc. They made lay down on the gravel, and as they cuffed me I got banged up a little.

When police believe you are guilty of a serious crime, they don't come at you offering you gifts and saying "please". You are a suspect, you are considered dangerous, and you get taken down hard.

No, it doesn't.

While I understand nothing justifies handling a suspect "rough" after they are handcuffed, it''s difficult for police officers to go from the adrenaline rush of pursuit and danger to fluffy bunnies. It's one thing if it happens once or twice a year, but police officers go through this four or five times a day. We expect the world of police officers but their job is impossible. Imagine working in an office for eight hours a day and randomly three times a day someone is going to attack you with a bat or a crow bar or a knife. After a few days of this you would be a basket case.

Again, I'm not trying to justify this, but I can understand it.

So you just believe everything the police say now? Lots of things seem odd about this story..

But Vancouver Police say officers had been observing the man for some time and he had already fled from them.

I?m the guy in the video. I was taking frustrations out on my bike. Not smart. I admitted to police I was speeding. I had no idea I was being followed. Once police came. Tried my best to Co operate.

yet the car that pulled in behind him was unmarked and no other cops show up for like almost 4 mins after he stopped? Their official statement sounds conflicting to me

Sounds more like this guy was speeding and didn't see the cops behind him.. The way he pulled over doesn't suggest he was trying to evade cops when only one cop car is behind him and he causally stopped and got off the bike.

Well what if I went and did the same thing to this guy and it was video taped?

Would the law treat it the same way?

The fact they are police officers only makes it worse, condoning this type of behaviour only encourages it.

I am really surprised at the number of people who believe this type of police action is a good thing, had numerous discussions with people about it and it surprises the hell out of me.
