I was thinking of sending a gift card (preferably amazon) to a friend and deposit with bitcoin, have any of you found a smooth hassle free exchange for this type of transaction ?

I use Buy bitcoin instantly | Paxful for buying and selling BTC using alternative funding sources... Not 100% what you're looking for, but you do have the ability to exchange BTC for other people's Amazon gift cards.

I have used gyft a few times with no problems. I have bought 4 or 5 amazon gift cards on there. I always bought them for myself though.
Maybe more than 5.
