Adapt or die.

Recently I've seen so many posts from people who hate adapting, even some who think other people owe them a living.

Unless a contract from a sponsor states the sponsor isn't allowed to drop and affiliate or a method of promoting. They have as much right to change as affiliates do. The "work/support/loyalty so far" has been paid for. That's it. Adapt and move on.

Adblockers will gain in popularity because with them in use surfers life is sweeter. The growth of Adblockers is down to the overuse of ads. In porn, they have devastated sales and profits. Any porn site relies on people paying for porn, that doesn't promoteAdblockers is losing money.

Live Webcams are the future. Sites, where girls talk to customers in their native language, will take traffic from the old fashioned style. The girls who earn big bucks are the key to success. Third World Studios are the past.

The MG and Met-Art's will dominate the business. They have 10,000s signing up every day. They can spend more on content than those signing up 10 a day. They can also cross promote one customer to each other and to their own sites. This is going to make affiliates more and more redundant. The big companies can also do their own promotion.
The days of 1,000s of TGP sites automatically getting a slice of traffic are gone. Apart from the top 20 Tube sites, which one's are really needed?

Should adblockers become so good Tubes close, will the big boys have 1,000s of affiliates taking a slice of their business or have in-house staff?

The time to adapt for some was 8 years ago if you haven't adapted by now. It's already too late.

The Paul Markham Experience is on again folks.

Sorry Paul, but yet again, you're wrong.

I am running AdBlock Plus and uBlock side by side.

I went to PornHub and AdBlock Plus blocked 7 resources, uBlock blocked 15 however there are still ads.

Top of front page:

See the banner to the right, loaded fine and bypassed the two best ad blockers

Lower portion of front page:

3 ads one for Brazzers and the other two for dating, all bypassing the two best ad blockers.

Now while it's true I might have evaded a pop under, and maybe even some other tracking resources, I still see four ads before leaving the front page and delving further into the site.

Ad Blockers cannot and will not stop all ads. They will not harm companies like MindGeek to the extent you would wish them to. Rather than blabbering on in every thread about things that you do not understand, why don't you actually install some ad blockers and find out for yourself how effective they are.

I believe the adapt or die depends on the business & who is already part of your business.

I think you have to evolve & keep up with the times, but no need to change, just grow, learn & become bigger if you want to earn more & become better

Agreed for people with a business like yours. Can they push the marketing side harder, change where, how and what they market? Yes. But it's always going to be based on one person until they find another person to team up with, then another and still keeping the essential element of the original person.

Absolutely true Paul. The marketing can be changed to appeal to a new crowd, a lot of new sales can be made via new sites. With this, yes, we have had to adapt. I've had to adapt personally for custom vids, if I didn't, then these sales would have fell through & death of my business would have occurred.

There are a few models, both male & female who have wanted to do shared content, this I have stuck to my own. Maybe losing out on a few deals & maybe a lot of marketing, however, I would rather keep my content to my own, knowing if people see me, NatalieK on film, it's my own content & my own right

Markham is now the spokesman of ad blockers?

Like I said previously, ad blockers may have a golden lining -- reducing the ads supporting tubes and file lockers (and such). Note I said 'reducing'. The ads that are seen on those sites will increase in value, if and only if, the ads' CTR and consequential ROI increases.

Tubes and file lockers may just end up making more money with more ad revenue

Sword cuts both ways

After Tubes the biggest change to online porn has been the Chaturbate, MFC type sites.

chaturbate.com | Alexa ranking & traffic history for 7 years
July 16, 2016 370 Million Desktop+Mobile sessions
160 Million Desktop sessions per month
Alexa Rank 294

myfreecams.com | Alexa ranking & traffic history for 7 years
July 16, 2016110 Million Desktop+Mobile sessions
48 Million Desktop sessions per month
Alexa rank 1047

cam4.com | Alexa ranking & traffic history for 7 years
July 16, 2016 120 Million Desktop+Mobile sessions
52 Million Desktop sessions per month
1170 Alexa Rank

These type of sites are either soaking up customers who used to pay, or/and soaking up customers who are still paying. The move to live chat with independent models is growing.

I also pointed other parts of the industry so no hard on for cams, just pointing out the changes overall.

These stats are vital for potential models and affiliates.

More assumptions based on the only statistics available to you.

You ever sat for a few hours in some of those token tip website rooms and counted (or taken notice) the average money spent in a sample of rooms? Taken the time to come up with a valid analysis? No, just hit up Alexa a repeat what they tell you

Business 101 Paul.

Blocked ad CTR = 1:30,000
Ad seen CTR = 1:1000

This effect would be similar for paysite or camsite CTR and perhaps adult dating ads.

So Western European girls are working on those sites and earning less than Third World webcam studio girls.

Where did you get those stats and did you need to stand up to pull them out?

Click-through rate (CTR) is the ratio of users who click on a specific link to the number of total users who view a page, email, or advertisement.

Surfers on the page make no difference except in B/W cost. Clickers are what produce the $$$.

On Tubes which type of advertising is the most effective, Branding, impulse, creative or classified? Given the audience?

Paul, your initial post in this thread would have been appropriate in 2006. Cam4 and MFC were widely popular before tubes hit the scene. You've tried to talk about cams before and it becomes clear real quick, that you are clueless about the timeline and popularity of cams. You could have been promoting them on your site in 2003 and making a killing, but no matter what kind of advice people gave you, you marched on doing things stubbornly your way, and it cost you.

You just described yourself perfectly in 2007 with that quote. Many here tried to tell you what you needed to do with your site to adapt to the changing landscape in adult, but you ignored any advice. The writing was on the wall a decade ago that cams and dating were the future of adult. Your comments on gfy during that time period and today often portray an attitude that the industry owes you something because of your longevity.

1950 and in a week I will be 66.

During those times I had to learn selling, advertising, and marketing. Across different businesses. Clothing, office furniture, advertising and porn. The same rules apply with a little adaptation. Webmasters can only hang onto "The Internet is different" and "You don't understand how online marketing works"

Other than dumping the maximum number of people onto a page and hoping someone behind that sites has a clue in selling, advertising, and marketing. There's no difference. With recorded porn traffic doesn't equal maximum dollars.

Webcam models on certain sites offer an indication to where they earn the better. They're not like a free tube clip, they want to earn money and free to choose where's best.

I see someone here trying to defend not adapting to a new market place.

As for the webcam business. We see the huge climb of sites giving away free-webcam. The traditional model can't afford to lose that much traffic. New suppliers never bring new customers, they tap into the existing customer base.

We see the quality of models on those "Chaturbate style"sites. A quality Xlovecam can't attract when they tried to on Stripperweb. The obvious thing to do was pay them enough to tempt them over. Can Xlovecam afford that?

This is a battle between different models of business. Who will win, the new or the old?

Barry's replies are an "Interesting perspective" on an evolving industry.

Cue more pointless abuse form those with no answers.

Who says my customers' demands are changing -- Paul Markham and his crystal (ized balls)?

You are assuming a customer personna or segmented personna(s) and extrapolating your assumptions onto a multi-billion dollar market with defined segments.

Put some skin in the game or keep your advice to yourself -- I sure as fuck could care less.

Paul didn't save the porn business with his foolish blabbering and now he is the new trend-setter of the adult cam business with his foolishness?

The flow of traffic from the Third World Style Webcam sites to the newer style. Or are you going to claim surfers prefer text rather than a girls voice?

The rest of your post was babble. Only time will tell whether this new style will replace the old style, we can see your boss tried to recruit models outside France and failed. We can see traffic on Xlovecam drop suddenly and on the newer style rise over the same period. We know there are no new surfers. So logic says you lost a lot. Saying they were 100% freeloaders who moved over, is your step. But no one will believe you. We saw what happened with Tubes.

The bottom line is affiliates and models earnings. Plus your bosses ability to buy traffic cheap enough.

Paul is either:

1. Trolling because he's bored and has no other outlet.
2. Being paid to post to stir people up to keep a dying board alive.
3. Going completely off his rocker.
4. All of the above.

I wonder how many people secretly do the opposite of OP's posting and still make a good living?

Everyone went from SD to HD, many tried 3D, some tried 4K and no doubt everyone will give VR a try. Same with servers and programming etc. They're easy adaptations, just a bit of money and know how. The hard part is to take a product to a new level, or worse still the new industry level customers are demanding.

How many Tube owners can rise to the level of Xhamster? Paysites to the level of Brazzers?

So those with less money have to think outside the box. Or like our imposter in Australia, working past midnight and then grab 6 hours before he's forced to get back to work. Go to bed and give yourself a break.

Always think along these lines. Getting traffic is easy, the hard part is getting them to buy an inferior product when there's better to be had. I knew I was no great photographer but knew if I found new girls I could outsell better photographers.

What can you do to make your product a little bit better than the products around it?

People who don't adapt to the changing market and still make a good living?

Are you still doing the same as you did 10 years ago?

Will you still be doing the as you do now in 10 years?

Adapting is part of being in business, those who don't go broke. The level of your post shows your trolling force is weak.

The problem is how an individual adapts his business. Open a new Search Engine?

10 000's of sign ups a day? You are so far removed from the market you are repeating stuff that wasn't even true 8 years ago...

Porn should simply be free. Many more opportunities to make cash online exist outside porn. Just let current porn die and allow it to rebirth itself later.

Online commerce is a unique landscape and the adult segment has some innovators but is filled with lemmings that follow the loudest leaders, not the smartest.

The real goal of the loudest leaders is malware installs, but they coat them with "affiliate sales" and like candy the lemmings flood them with their traffic and the consumer loses, bad characters. Signs of bad characters? They want to force popunders, disable as blockers, force redirects, etc.

The cool thing is that they, and their lemmings, are so set in their old ways that I've rarely seen them on any of the newer traffic sources I've personally culled. They are like Trump, brash & loud and stand out like a sore thumb not adapting to where they are or present company.

What about the smartest leaders? Well we don't know much about them, I wonder why that is

Why not quote the value on McDonalds?

You're too stupid to be trolling.

The are price/quality sectors for most markets. Is Xlovecam on the lower quality/price range?

Good post.

The problem is the innovators have made their money and moved on. Excluding webcam, which only went to the tips/free model. There's nothing "innovating" about porn. It's sex and that won't change.

So all they can do is hang on and hope the checks don't bounce.
