American Eagle vs Canadian Maple Leaf

I'm about to purchase some more coins for my stack and was debating on keep stacking the American Eagle or the Canadian Maple Leaf. I'm thinking the Canadian coins are a better buy.

Thoughts?

My first thought is that you're timing to add is quite savvy as there's been a decent pullback and the months of November through to around February are typically strong months for precious metals in terms of price performance.

Silver looks like an amazing bargain right now. Whether its Gold or Silver you're talking about, American Eagles, Canadian Maple Leafs and Krugerrands are liquid pretty much anywhere globally. However, if you're in the USA, I would bet that American Eagles would be slightly more liquid though you may pay a slightly higher premium (but you get it back when you sell it).

It's worth noting that in gold 1 oz Canadian Maple Leaf is slightly smaller than 1 oz Krugerrands. It took me a while to figure it out but its because the larger size of the kruger is to accommodate the added alloy to increase strength whereas maples are more pure.

Thank you for your input. I've gone with the the CML since I've already got a decent stack of ASE.
Specifically about the silver coins. The ASE is $1 face and the CML is $5 face. I'm thinking he CAD will be stronger than the USD in the upcoming years but would it really matter?
As for gold, I prefer options contracts (derivatives) for liquidity and gold miners (GDX).

I stock CML but since I'm Canadian they are more common here.

Sure but the gold content is exactly the same.

So eagles must be slightly bigger to accommodate the small amount of alloy just like Krugers.

The face value is irrelevant, you're buying bullion for the metal value right?

I'll avoid the options but I definitely like some specific gold & silver mining stocks but you have to do your research on these and you have to follow them from quarter to quarter and they carry risks different to physical metal. However, they also tend to rise much faster and further than the underlying metal in a bull market so its worth having some exposure.

As for ETFs, for gold I like GDX. For silver, I like the juniors more and SILJ which has 7 of the silver miners I follow in their top 10 holdings which is encouraging.

One of these days, the mining stocks will explode (to the upside) and it will be major news.

Some coin shops will only give melt price if there are any dings and dings tend to happen more often with Maple Leaves and Philharmonics because they are pure. Krugerands for me.
