if you need them locally why in firefox?

btw, any decent media player plays .flv files.

Because they are embedded in html files and I want to view them locally before they are uploaded. They work fine when they are uploaded to my server. At one point in time firefox allowed them to work locally.

Check path to the files (if they play online but not locally) and check if you have the latest version of Shockwave Flash plugin in FF.
