I opened an account at Cyptopia and sent a small BCH transaction about 3 hours ago that is still pending. How long does this usually take?

Yeah, I did a small transaction with too small a fee last night on BTC and it's still pending, seen by 13 peers but still waiting.

Currency is supposed to facilitate or expedite transactions between parties. Why would retailers accept crypto that take hours or days to process, over cash or credit cards that process almost instantly?
