I fully believe in the "deep state". The "deep state" are government employees who have near permanent status in their government jobs. These are people who do their jobs to the best of their ability no matter who is in office. Think of the military. People in the military go to war no matter which party is in office. People who work in the State Department are also good examples. They get their degree in Political Science or whatever, start at the bottle of the pond, and work their way up for the next twenty or thirty years and if they are lucky, at some point they actually have input on American foreign policy.

The Federal government is full of these people, including the people in the White House. They don't work for the President; They work for the US Government. They do their jobs; They don't care what party runs the Oval Office or Congress. This has always worked in the past.

But now they see the worst possible case scenario - A president who has no idea what he is doing, changes his mind every time the wind changes direction, has no policy, no plan, no goals, doesn't care about the best interests of anyone except for himself.

Our system is working exactly the way it should be working. Government employees take an oath to the country, not to the person occupying the Oval Office.

wouldn't it be hilarious? I agree, it does make sense. As much as trump snubs and berates Sessions in public, this is a great way to get back. I can't think of any other motive to have it published. Okay, you're going to have to explain this one to me. Your theory is that a book was coming out about Trump that made him look bad (not the first of these type of books I might add) so Trump is combating it and "taking publicity away" from it by putting out a letter that makes him not only look bad, but look like he is completely incompetent and surrounded by people who think he is an idiot that is in the process of destroying the country. How exactly is that better for him?

it's the action itself that is the issue, not the article. hiding docs from the president etc..

Even if it is done with the intention of 'protecting the institutions of the nation' it still pretty much crosses the line. If anything they should be talking to congress behind closed doors instead and an investigation would ensue. Rather than taking actions into their own hands.

Imagine you are one of Trumps people at his meetings. You disagree with his insanity, and you're nervous. You look around the room when trump says something stupid, trying to lock eyes with anyone who may be thinking the same way you do.

Chances are, that person is Pence.

Pence is the 2nd most powerful person in the room, and the country. After trumpy says his nonsense and leaves, you as a subordinate may look to Pence for a little stability and reassurance. And if you're a general or other high-ranking officially, you may say to Pence: "What do you think? You too? Ok phew I'm not alone / shh shh ok."

Pence could be the one sneaking the papers off the desk, or, you're the one doing it, with a knowing wink from pence. You don't want to get into trouble, and if you're Pence, you want to let the others know you're doing what you can.

I don't think anyone could or would be doing this without Pence's knowing wink as they would just be too scared. And I don't think Pence could do it himself without the urging or thumbs-up from others in the room.
