Lexar announces world's first 1TB sdxc memory card

Gonna be great for 4K vid and hi-res RAW stills.

B&H list it for $400.

I've still got loads of unused spools of blank DVDs that never got needed...

Perhaps I could sell them as retro coasters? Good call

95mb/s ?

Thanks, but no thanks.

USB sticks do 400mb/s nowadays.

Only thing is...on my newest 4k cam I'm using 300mbs sd cards to shoot.
The 95's are okay. But my new Canon XF705 is shooting 10 bit 4K at 110 to 160mbs

So I'm using this:

In my office, I have some "art" that I made myself, a framed TRS-80 Model 1 Motherboard and Keyboard, and another frame that contains

- A 5.25" Floppy Disk
- A 3.5" Floppy Disk
- A 3.5" 100MB Hard Disk (Opened up because it looks cool inside)
- A cassette tape with the games Backgammon and Checkers on it for the TRS-80
- And finally, a 10" Reel of tape from a 70's era Mainframe Computer.

I was thinking that I was going to expand it soon with other formats of storage. I can get my hands on a core memory storage thing which is about 2ft by 2ft wide, and is made of wire-wrapped magnets that I think holds 1kb or something like that. It's from the 60's I think and its awesome.

But now I'm thinking that I should add a CD and DVD disk, an SSD Drive, etc. This piece of art is going to be huge before too long... !

I still have a crapload of 5.25 and 3.5 floppies stashed away in a dresser drawer with old BBS files on them. Tons of ancient shareware disks. Telix and Procomm dialers, original copies of Renegade BBS.

Should call the Smithsonian sometime.

You're a better man than me. I had a purge a few years back and none my floppies, old disks, old computers (but for 2) survived. I just couldn't have it around anymore.

That is just freaking insane. I remember going to the store and looking at a 1gb harddrive and thinking to myself "who in the world would ever fill up that kind of space". I also remember getting my first 1gb drive for my home pc.....

Yep.

I still remember doubling my harddrive from 20mb to 40mb and thinking what a giant leap forward.

Prior to that we were zip compressing everything we could to conserve space, stripping unnecessary files outta programs...anything. I even recall investing in an HP Colorado travan tape drive for backup at one point (400mb tapes) - just trying to expand capacity.

I bet few people remember the Apricot computers way ahead of their time for 1983. Produced even before the Mac but a royal pain to use. It was my first office computer and a small step up from my Commodore computer
