The Wall is very needed for purely economic reasons. Illegal migrants cost the US 100s of $billions and a wall is one step towards slowing it down. I've post ed figures continuously on this to prove I'm right. Just Google Illegal immigrants in prison and then the cost of US prisoners to get a fraction of the costs.

After continued failure by consecutive governments to curb illegal immigration, Trump was the first to make it a corner stone of his campaign. The Liberals ignored this and came out with the same platitudes that have got nothing done. The only thing they could trumpet was that illegal immigration was down. As if it would never rise again.

The wall is only one tier of a immigration policy that needs tightening. Repeat employers and landlords of illegals need to go to prison, one time employers should be fined more than it costs to catch them. Sanctuary cities need to have Federal money withdrawn from them. Zero benefits need to be given to illegal immigrants, this includes schools, hospitals, etc. No SS Number or Driving License.

This is correct. Obama (And Hillary I believe) both voted for the Secure Fence Act of 2006. From 2007-2009 some 600 miles were built. Everyone is for border security. We built fences where fences were needed - in high traffic areas.

But do you see the difference here?

We spent $2.4 billion to build a fence. Trump wants to spend up to $60 billion to build a wall. The fence is more or less the same as a wall, just as effective, but costs a lot less.

The problem is Trump is less interested in securing our borders, and more interested in keeping his campaign slogan. We don't need a wall. We need more Border Patrol agents, and we need them better trained and with better gear. We need more technology to help them do their jobs.

If Republicans were serious about securing our border, they would be pouring money into the Border Patrol.

Instead, like they usually do, they bury their hands in the sand and fuck everything up. If Republicans tried to pass a bill with extra funding for the Border Patrol, it would quickly pass. Instead, Trump is trying to get around Congress by declaring a National Emergency which will be fought in court for the next two years, and then it will be fought again in court by the homeowners. It's almost like Republicans try to do the direct opposite of what is needed.

You want a national emergency? How about our government providing all children with free healthcare? But nah.

At the same time, speaking of protecting our nation.... How many new ships has our nation put in the water in the past two years? There was another one last week. Thanks Obama for making our country stronger. How many ships has Trump signed off on? I don't recall one being approved under Trump.

Imagine if the United States was able to completely stop people from crossing our border illegally, be it people or drugs. Nothing would change. The vast majority of people who are illegal immigrants didn't cross the border in the dead of the night in the desert, but instead came here legally. The majority of the drugs are also coming through ports of entry as well.

We all know Trump is an idiot, incompetent and an oaf. But the country was divided when they voted for him. But he came up with policies that appealed to the Nation. Less migration, less illegal migration, more sales in China, bring jobs back to the Mid-West, rebuilding infrastructure, NATO countries paying more. He also had some pretty bad ones. Healthcare, climate change, tax cuts, etc.

He was also an outsider. After decades of getting poorer people are disillusioned in politicians. Hillary promised more of the same. Democrats couldn't find a candidate who appealed to Americans more than Trump!!!

You can have 50% of your voting base hating you. Just get the 1% on your side to get you elected.

And yes it's much worse in Europe with more and more switching to the only alternative, the Far Right. The liberals in the UK are now crying over teens who though able to walk from the ME and Asia and through many safe countries. Now in the UK they need special treatment rather than give it to British citizens.
