Trump OK’d Strikes on Iran but Called Them Off Abruptly When Planes Were Already in the Air
President Trump approved U.S. military strikes on multiple targets in Iran on Thursday but changed his mind at the last minute, according to The New York Times. Multiple senior administration officials cited by the Times said military and diplomatic officials were waiting for a strike Thursday evening when the operation was suddenly called off.
One source said planes were already in the air and ships had gotten into position when the call came down that the operation was not going ahead. It was not immediately clear why the strike was called off, but Trump had appeared to walk back his accusations against Iran earlier Thursday by suggesting on Twitter that the country had not intentionally shot down a U.S. drone. It was also not immediately clear if there were plans for the strikes to go ahead at a different time. Newsweek cited a Pentagon official as saying U.S. military assets in the region were placed on a 72-hour standby. The drone incident on Thursday was just the latest in a growing list of disputes between Tehran and Washington to raise fears that one simple diplomatic misunderstanding between the two countries could trigger a full-on military confrontation. Tensions have gotten so high that the Federal Aviation Administration on Friday blocked all American-registered planes from flying over parts of the Middle East, citing “heightened military activities and increased political tensions in the region” that pose “an inadvertent risk to U.S. civil aviation operations.” It was not immediately clear if the FAA order came in response to news reports about the Trump administration’s planned airstrike, but the agency cited Iran’s shooting down of a U.S. drone early Thursday as a reason to fear aircraft could be at risk in the region. Will America Attack Iran Over One Dead Robot? While Trump and his advisers have insisted the drone Iran’s Revolutionary Guard shot down Thursday was over international waters, Iranian leaders have claimed to have GPS proof that the unmanned drone flew into the country’s airspace despite radio warnings. The shooting down of the drone also came as many Democratic lawmakers had already begun to question whether the Trump administration was actively trying to build a case for military action against Iran in response to what top officials have described as escalating threats from the country since Trump pulled out of the nuclear deal last year. Just last week, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo backed Trump in blaming Iran for attacks on two fuel tankers in the Gulf of Oman, claiming Tehran was “lashing out” to get back at the U.S. for sanctions. The Trump administration announced last month that it would be sending additional troops to the Middle East “to send a clear and unmistakable message to the Iranian regime,” as National Security Adviser John Bolton put it at the time. When reports of the called-off military strikes on Iran broke late Thursday, Democratic lawmakers took to Twitter to sound the alarm over the matter. “This is governing by chaos. We need a steady hand at the wheel. I stood up against the Iraq War and I know that America cannot afford another disastrous war in the Middle East,” Washington Gov. Jay Inslee, a 2020 candidate, wrote. Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA), who is also running for president, accused Trump of “instigating” conflict with Iran. “Donald Trump promised to bring our troops home. Instead he has pulled out of a deal that was working and instigated another unnecessary conflict. There is no justification for further escalating this crisis—we need to step back from the brink of war,” she wrote. https://news.yahoo.com/trump-ok-d-st...032532590.html |

At least its proved that the deal they had with Obama was working and being adhered to.
Since the deals are off Iran has claimed they are spinning up nuke fuel now.. if they had it already as Team Trump was claiming they wouldn't need to and most likely would of used the nuke threat by now.. which they haven't. … meanwhile China moves fighter jets to the South China sea and parks them out in the open for American satellites to view... I wonder which Allies are coming to Trumps aid if they go into Iran. |

what a great time to unite against the USA...on all fronts...russia should start as much shit as possible...as should china...iran should keep that shit up of course...n.korea should also keep carrying the torch...freedom from america is right around the corner...
americas main exports: war, threats, sanctions, meddling in elections, protection racket.... americas #1 growing industry: debt now america has passed "the point of no return" ....too much $$$$ invested in exporting war, but too much debt to keep servicing it...americans truly believe the debt will not have to be paid back, because they are americans and they believe silly things... |

He fucking ordered it you fool. Maybe not ordering military strikes might be the way forward ? Maybe not reneging on international deals might be a start. Maybe not tweeting all sorts of provocative shit in the middle of the night might also be a winner. Trump is a liability and he has pushed and pushed for this - its a good job Putin tightened the leash before it went too far.

sure it would be better to have a president who thinks BEFORE he reacts but for trump it is already a miracle that he can change his fucking wrong views. but maybe someone told him that china relies on oil from iran and would not be amused to see the oil burning. maybe someone showed him WHERE the drone was shot down and not only a bad video that it was shot down. maybe someone told him that th e rest of the world will not help to attack a country that was fulfilling every chapter of a contract that HE breaks. or maybe he just was busy to smell the wonderful aroma of his own farts and busy with typing a twitter message about the BEST farts. |

Agree 100% but i also think in the end he did the right thing. I mean up to 150 estimated would be killed in comparison to shooting down a 100 million +$ drone is not a proportional response is it ?
He just has no idea how to run this country, not even close! |

Its amazing Red Hat logic that is...
Dear Leader gives the order to launch the nukes but at 5 seconds till ignition he cancels the launch. Dear Leader has saved the world again!

He is done everything possible to provoke Iran and then blames them when they react.. There is a 2 mile section of air space where the drone was shot down. It could have easily gone into Iran's airspace.. Aside from that shooting down a unmanned drone is not reason to put American troops at risk.. Is your life less valuable than a drone? If no then why is every soldier in the ME's less valuable? Why is all the civilians who will die less valuable than a drone? Trump is intentionally antagonizing Iran since the day he entered office. He is pushing for a war. A real leader does everything possible to avoid a war... Added to this not he hasn't even consulted Congress... |

President Trump Says He Called Off Strike on Iran With 10 Minutes to Spare
(WASHINGTON) — President Donald Trump said Friday the U.S. was “cocked and loaded” to retaliate against Iran for downing an unmanned American surveillance drone, but he canceled the strikes 10 minutes before they were to be launched after being told 150 people could die. Trump’s tweeted statement raised several questions, including how he could have learned about casualties only minutes before the operation when that information typically would be provided much earlier. His tweet was the latest indication that he does not want to escalate the U.S. clash with Tehran, though he didn’t rule out future strikes. He said U.S. economic sanctions are crippling the Iranian economy, more are being added and he insisted anew that the U.S. would never allow Iran to have a nuclear weapon After days of harsh words against the United States, Iran also seemed to be tamping down its rhetoric. Gen. Amir Ali Hajizadeh, the head of the Revolutionary Guard’s aerospace division, told reporters on Friday that a U.S. spy plane with around 35 crew members was flying close to the unmanned U.S. Navy RQ-4A Global Hawk that was shot down, but that Iran chose not to target the manned aircraft. Separately, he told Iranian state TV that Iran warned the drone several times before downing it with a missile. Late Thursday, the Federal Aviation Administration barred American-registered aircraft from flying over parts of the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman, and several major airlines from around the world on Friday began rerouting their flights, including British Airways, Australia’s Qantas, Germany’s Lufthansa and the Dutch carrier KLM. In a lengthy tweet, Trump defended his stance on Iran amid criticism from Democrats who accuse him of having no strategy. He said he pulled out of the 2015 Iran nuclear deal, which gave Tehran sanctions relief in exchange for pledges to rein in its nuclear program, because the agreement only temporarily blocked Iran from having nuclear weapons. Trump said the nuclear deal also did not stem Iran’s support of militant groups or restrain its ballistic missile program. He said his exit from the deal and the re-imposition of sanctions on Iran has crippled its economy. “Now they are Bust!” Trump tweeted and then outlined his reasons for canceling the strikes. “We were cocked & loaded to retaliate last night on 3 different sights when I asked, how many will die. 150 people, sir, was the answer from a General. 10 minutes before the strike I stopped it.” He added that those deaths would not be a proportionate response to the downing of an unmanned drone. “I am in no hurry,” he said. “Sanctions are biting & more added last night. Iran can NEVER have Nuclear Weapons, not against the USA, and not against the WORLD!” The overnight events, however, were a stark reminder of the serious risk of military conflict between U.S. and Iranian forces as the Trump administration combines its “maximum pressure” campaign of economic sanctions with a buildup of American troops in the region. As tensions have mounted in recent weeks, there have been growing fears that either side could make a dire miscalculation leading to war. The U.S. military operation was called off around 7:30 p.m. Washington time, after Trump had spent most of Thursday discussing Iran strategy with top national security advisers and congressional leaders. The downing of the U.S. drone — a huge, unmanned aircraft — over the Strait of Hormuz prompted accusations from the U.S. and Iran about who was the aggressor. Iran insisted the drone violated Iranian airspace; Washington said it had been flying over international waters. Trump’s initial comments on the attack were succinct. He declared in a tweet on Thursday that “Iran made a very big mistake!” But he also suggested that shooting down the drone — which has a wingspan wider than a Boeing 737 — was a foolish error rather than an intentional escalation, suggesting he was looking for some way to avoid a crisis. “I find it hard to believe it was intentional, if you want to know the truth,” Trump said at the White House. “I think that it could have been somebody who was loose and stupid that did it.” Trump, who has said he wants to avoid war and negotiate with Iran over its nuclear ambitions, cast the shootdown as “a new wrinkle … a new fly in the ointment.” Yet he also said “this country will not stand for it, that I can tell you.” But fears of open conflict shadowed much of the discourse in Washington. As the day wore on, Trump summoned his top national security advisers and congressional leaders to the White House for an hour-long briefing in the Situation Room. Attendees included Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, national security adviser John Bolton, CIA Director Gina Haspel, Joint Chiefs Chairman Gen. Joseph Dunford, acting Defense Secretary Patrick Shanahan and Army Secretary Mark Esper, whom Trump has said he’ll nominate as Pentagon chief. “The president was very clear of what he wants to achieve with Iran — to never allow them to have a nuclear weapon,” House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy told “Fox and Friends” Friday. “He was very clear that there will be action,” said McCarthy, who was in the meeting. “He has a long-term game plan here and it doesn’t mean that you have to act within the few hours. … He’s just not overreacting. It’s going to be measured. And it’s going to achieve a goal.” Pompeo and Bolton have advocated hardline policies against Iran, but Rep. Adam Schiff, the Democratic chairman of the House intelligence committee, said “the president certainly was listening” when congressional leaders at the meeting urged him to be cautious and not escalate the already tense situation. On Capitol Hill, some lawmakers insisted the White House must consult with Congress before taking any actions. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said no specific options for a U.S. response were presented at Thursday’s meeting. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said, “The administration is engaged in what I would call measured responses.” And late Thursday, House Republicans on the Foreign Affairs, intelligence and Armed Services committees issued a statement using the same word, saying, “There must be a measured response to these actions.” The Trump administration has been putting increasing economic pressure on Iran for more than a year. It reinstated punishing sanctions following Trump’s decision to pull the U.S. out of an international agreement intended to limit Iran’s nuclear program in exchange for relief from earlier sanctions. Citing Iranian threats, the U.S. recently sent an aircraft carrier to the Persian Gulf region and deployed additional troops alongside the tens of thousands already there. All this has raised fears that a miscalculation or further rise in tensions could push the U.S. and Iran into an open conflict 40 years after Tehran’s Islamic Revolution. ....On Monday they shot down an unmanned drone flying in International Waters. We were cocked & loaded to retaliate last night on 3 different sights when I asked, how many will die. 150 people, sir, was the answer from a General. 10 minutes before the strike I stopped it, not.... — Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) June 21, 2019 ....proportionate to shooting down an unmanned drone. I am in no hurry, our Military is rebuilt, new, and ready to go, by far the best in the world. Sanctions are biting & more added last night. Iran can NEVER have Nuclear Weapons, not against the USA, and not against the WORLD! |

BTW, Trump likes to act like he's going to do something, or make it look like he's going to do something -- then pull back at the last second. It's his thing.

USA and Israel can't even defeat Hezbollah, even if the USA went in to Iran with Nukes, after you kill a million.. there's 80 million more Iranians to deal with.

I love how this guy solves problems he creates. Actually he didn't really solve anything, he just said he was going to do something and didn't do it. But he sure as fuck started the problem.
The whole reason a drone was shot down is because of the Trump administrations actions. We have tensions with Iran because it was the only path which could have been taken after pulling out of the nuclear deal. Now, they're going back to building a bomb, which they were not before we cancelled the deal. Fucking idiots.

US exports relays mostly on weapons. nobody will need weapons when the world lives in peace. so peace is the enemy of the US economy. Quote:
According to the international nuclear authorities, iran has passed every test and not once violated the clauses of the nuclear treaty. that's evil !!! such a country you have to show of course that it needs weapons, because if not it will be attacked by the weapons seller himself. you don't have to fight a war right away - it's enough if the whole region if scared enough to upgrade the military arsenal as a precaution. |
