Equifax Breach Settlement

Just got this in my email: https://www.equifaxbreachsettlement.com/

Go to the website. There is a button that you can click to check if your data was breached. If it was, you have a few options for compensation.

I checked and my data was breached, I was eligible for a $125 compensation check.

Took less than 5 minutes to go through the process and request my check.

Would be too funny if that website itself was a scam and you just gave away your data.

There's only $31 million allocated for these payments, so people aren't going to get anything near $125.

Everyone isn't eligible. You are only eligible for the money if you already have credit reporting, which I would wager a lot of people don't. Those that don't have credit reporting, are being given 6 months of credit reporting and no cash.

I already have credit reporting. We'll see what happens! I will report back if I receive a check.

Based on the information you provided, our records indicate your personal information was impacted by this incident

Thank you for the heads’ up. Filed my claim for ten hours based on my typing skills with one hand and a stylus.

I added credit monitoring after a card was opened up in my name for someone in Idaho. I’d tracked it back to a website after a mail order for a small item. After that I got one-time credit card numbers for hardly used them. I still felt secure and was more careful about ordering online from small businesses.

Thanks again. I’ll email people about this tomorrow. I hope everyone here gets a check or prepaid card.

The public response to the settlement has been overwhelming. Millions of people have visited this site in just the first week. Because the total amount available for these alternative payments is $31 million, each person who takes the money option is going to get a very small amount. Nowhere near the $125 they could have gotten if there hadn’t been such an enormous number of claims filed.
