As many of you would have noticed, youtube stopped showing the dislike count for videos, a controversial decision to say the least. What do you think about it?

I know a lot of us used that like/dislike ratio. For example if a video had lots of dislikes to likes, you generally knew it was going to be shit. It was a bit helpful to have that user feedback data.

Anyhow, not sure if anybody else does this weird ass shit, but from the beginning I've been looking at it another way to gauge user feedback. I compare likes to views, and get a basic % of how many people who saw the video liked it. (I don't use calculators and shit i'm just talking about glancing and getting rough idea)

What I'm seeing: 1% likes to views is good.... not mind blowing but good. This is a baseline level. Anything below that 1% starts to get questionable.

Most videos that I watch and find decent are around 1%.

Here's some random examples just looking on youtube now:

snoop dogg - gin and juice 1.25%
johnny depp wins case video - 1.7%
live rescue: helping a veteran - 1.9%
amber heard court testimony vids - 0.2% - 0.6% range
clickbaity bullshit videos - 0.2%-0.4%

Not sure why I'm such a dork even thinking like this, but have found it to be a surprisingly good alternative to the missing dislike button lol... really does give you an interesting gauge.

Takes power away from the users. YT said they did it to prevent "dislike bombing" but that sounds like bullshit. Makes the LIKE function practically pointless.

Also, I feel like since they took away the dislike numbers people hit the like less often.

They removed the dislikes because many larger corporations (news and others etc...) were getting tons of dislikes since most news outlets suck, and so it was to appease these larger entities.

YT's excuse was BS as they're not going to really tell you why.

If ever you get a letter in the mail from any company you do business with and it starts out as, "In order to serve you better ...." then you know it's the exact opposite.

TBF I think generally across the whole of the web, the like/dislike thing is early 2000s and should have been dropped a long time ago. There is so much content to consume that it's impossible to see it all.
