![]() I've got a problem with my back...
Whatever it is, its messing with some nerves too. My insurance covers chripractors and orthopedic surgeons... Anyone have any experiences with either? Was it good or bad? |

Chiropractors also rely on medicine.. I would suggest seeing if a chiropractor can assist you first before opting for orthopedic surgery... There are many medical associations that can give you recommendations for GOOD chiropractors. I've used one for 15 years and he does things physiotherapy and many other medical "solutions" couldn't fix. I swear by him. It's a matter of finding a GOOD one though.. Like any other medical personnel, there are quacks out there. Just ask around, ask your doctor.

Fork out the money for a good massage therapist and get some information on ergonomics..... consider what you're doing to make your back hurt in the first place before going to either one.

Most people that I know that have had back surgery regret it because
they are in more pain after the surgery. Go with the Chiropractor and use surgery as a last resort. Look for a Chiropractor that uses the 'palmer method'.

Have your general physician order an MRI. Then make the decision. I know WAY too much about back problems. If there is an actual physical problem go to the surgeon. A good one won't cut unless you are really bad. He will help you strengthen the area that is a problem. If nothing is wrong then a chiropractor and massage therapist can help a great deal with spasms or pain.

Oooh, ruptured disk at l4/l5 last summer, I'll weigh in.
Orthopedics all the way. Get an MRI and see what's really in there, xrays are NOT enough. My ortho guy at the Mayo wouldn't even consider surgery but as a final option, and would have sent me to neurosurgery for it. I couldn't walk for nearly 6 weeks (no cast that time tho lol) and while I have nothing against chiropractors at all, they are simply not qualified to handle major back problems. |

The hubbys ortho was truthful with him when it came to the nerve damage he has, that they can't repair nerves very well (even now it doesn't come out as well as they like to say it does) and that Doc SENT the hubby to a chiro. He knew of one who not only was a D.C but also a M.D, Let me tell you, she is GREAT!
One clue to a top notch chiro is, they will insist that you run thru a full series of medical tests, xrays, blood workup, MRI if needed etc etc. If they don't insist, then don't use them. I know from speaking with the hubbys ex, that when he walked into that chiros office, he couldn't raise his head to see in front of him. And she wouldn't touch him for the 2 weeks until the tests were all back. The same day he went in to be treated, he could see the sky when he walked out. ;-) She uses heat, electrical, vibration and other ways besides the cracking.

I had a girlfriend who was a chiropractor. I kinda miss her. Everytime I would see her she would do the 'ok, turn your head this way...' *chrack* neck fix thing. I have never been so aligned. I appreciated it so much that after she fixes my beck I would 'fix' her back soon after.
