Thanks for the publicity credit

I also said:

screensavers
e-books
banner exchanges
sales inside membership areas
online classifieds
PC operating system (eg Microsoft)

All of these are widely used methods for driving traffic to a websites.

Where are they on your list?

Or how are they stupid?

The e-books and screensavers are given away or sold via media such as websites, e-mail, bundled with other downloads or software CDs, e-book or software directories, auction sites, online classifieds, etc

The e-books and screensavers contain multiple links to websites. People click those links and that generates traffic. It is a VERY widely used strategy and is VERY effective.

Yep, I noticed that after I posted.

Quote:
sales inside membership areas - not a traffic source
It is a traffic source for the sites that are receiving referrals from the membership areas. If you send one of my sites traffic from your membership area, it is a prime source of well-qualified credit card holding traffic.

Take you pick:

A major basis of the anti-competition law suit against Microsoft was that they were integrating a browser with their OS and using that to refer traffic to Microsoft owned websites and partner websites. It was such a powerful traffic generating strategy that it was deemed anti-competitive behavior.

If he could built a new successful operating system he would do it, but without it the idea is just theoretical and pointless

in a nutshell: i should build my own OS?

Mail me your paypal to gfy at shiceland dot com and i will send you 10 $ for the indirect traffic sources you mentioned ( 5 $ each )

I don't understand your comment about "not a direct traffic source". All internet traffic came from somewhere else, eg if I buy traffic from a linklist, most of it will have come from the search engines, link trades or recips. The linklist did not create the traffic in isolation from the other sources that are feeding it. ALL internet traffic sources are just passing traffic from one source to another.

And if you give me a min, I will find some adult classifieds for you

indirect traffic: you have to get traffic via another method first

I think you are playing with semantics.

I could pay someone to add my URL to their e-book or screensaver. The traffic would come to my site directly from the e-book or screensaver. I do not have to get traffic from anywhere else first, that is the publishers responsibility, just as it is the linklist owners responsibility to feed his site with traffic from various external sources.

I could also purchase links in a third-party's paysite membership area. The traffic comes to me directly from the membership area. I do not have to get traffic via another method first.

As for the classifieds, you did not specify adult. Plus there are adult classifieds available and if I get a moment I will find some for you. Not now though 'cause it is 3am here and I am going to go to sleep.

And re the OS system, sure it is not easy to do. But it is doable, and it is a powerful and proven way to get traffic. However I can understand your reservations about this one, but I think the others are totally legit.

And besides, if I make a screensaver, post it do Download.com where it get's downloaded 20,000 times, then sits on desktops generating ongoing traffic for months. How is the screensaver not a legit traffic source? The fact that I had to post it to a few download sites is irrelevant, without the screensaver I would not have received the traffic.

Thanks for listening to my argument

And of course e-books work on exactly the same principle

As promised here are some adult classfieds links. I found the following with 15 minutes of searching. They are dedicated adult classifieds pages or mainstream classifieds sites which list adult ads. With a more thorough search you could no doubt find many more. Many of the free mainstream classifieds sites are also littered with adult spam.

http://www.sell.com/c/18/mature-audiences/
http://www.stuff.com.au/categories.a...uff1&uid=guest
http://www.rame.net/classifieds/
http://classifieds.ynotmasters.com/
http://www.bidorbuy.co.za/
http://www.ozads.com.au/
http://texasadults.com/
http://newtimes.rway.com/adult.shtml
http://www.girl-directory.com/
http://www.adultclassifieds.co.nz/
http://www.saucypanties.com/main.htm
http://www.threedworld.com.au/myworl...assifieds.html
http://www.sell.com/c/18/mature-audiences/
http://www.eye.net/classifieds/adult/
http://www.weeklydig.com/adult/
http://www.newtimes-slo.com/classif/adult.html
http://www.locknkeep.com/LocknKeep/M...classified.asp
http://www.pinkboard.com.au/cgi/RClassifieds
http://classifieds.metroactive.com/c...ass-adult.html
http://www.gaytoz.com/shopmall.asp

http://www.usedbrasandpanties.com/
http://marketplace.adultchamber.com/
http://cracker.com.au/
http://www.sexyjobs.com/

And here's a couple of complimentary idea:

Discount memberships for friends of existing paysite members.
Private label browsers with pre-loaded bookmark list.
Spamming bookmark sharing sites.
