Domain expired, its in "redemption period", any way to save it?

I had a domain expire, its in "redemption period", any way to save it? I didn't realize that I had one domain left on an older email address. It was registered with Namecheap (...eh yeah i know.)...

Usually yes, that's what the redemption period is for. Although you'll pay an idiot fee for letting it expire.

Ouch, looks like namecheap charges $200 on top of registration fees.

Namecheap is retarted, they haven't even spammed me about paying the idiot fee, im assuming thats the $200 redemption fee...if so then screw it, ill take my chances with it out on the market.

How long after a domain expires is it back on the market?

I think as soon as redemption is up but if you had ANY traffic or if it is anywhere near a good name don't expect to get it. Those people that bulk register grab even the shittiest of dropped domains.

registrars have the sexy factor of being able to spit it back into the drop's after testing the domains so they go for as many as they can gobble up. if it is good btw and i get it i will sell it to the thread starter ;-)

we have now captured 500+ domains since december off of the drops. our type-ins are waaaay up for some things as well.... drops are the shizznit.

Are you a registrar? Or just use your bandwidth for drops?

I had that with registersucks too, the suckers let one of my domains expire when i had it on autorenew :/ It was not a domain i were using so i took some time to notice it. They ask too for $200 as namecheap, i think the cause is that both work with ENOM for the domains registries, ENOM charges that $200 that for sure i won't pay, fuck the domain and soon fuck registerfly too.

That's one of the registrar industry big moneymakers. $200 is exhorbinant. I'd move your domains elsewhere just in case it happens again.

All registrars suck. They all have thier little games they like to play and little ways they like to fuck you.

You let the domain go, but you can get it back one of three ways:

1. Pay the redemption fee. Suck it up.

2. Go to another registrar and use thier "Backorder" feature, which may be alot cheaper than paying the redemption fee, but is not guranteed. As soon as the domain goes out of redemption, the backorder place will try to snap it up. It usually works, though. I would use Network Soultions for this, since they seem to be the fastest about trying to get it back in my experince.

3. Take a chance, let it go back into the pool and re-register it. Its about a 80/20 shot, your odds being the 20%. Those places that grab up domains and point them at fake little search engines will take ANYTHING.
