![]() i've spent the last 48 hours trying to fix this shit... with no luck. i was hoping maybe someone here can unfuck my situation:
i can't get internet explorer to load any page at all. it just sits there trying to connect for about 20 seconds... and then quits. i'm on a cable.. and i don't have a proxy set, i don't use a firewall, i haven't installed anything new recently.. and all my internet settings are the same as they've always been. i can connect to icq, aim, or tcp/ip to aol and use this gay browser.. or run audiogalaxy. but i've tried netscape, opera, the winamp browser, the browser in GASS, and upgraded to internet explorer 6.0 and still no luck. i've been on cable for about 4 years and have never had this happen. i tried calling my cables tech support, and they said that there is nothing they can do, because i can still connect to shit, so my connection is fine i guess. they told me it was my software, not their service. i've tried everything that i can think of. maybe there is somehow a proxy set somewhere that i cant find or something? also another thing... i dont know how gator got on my computer... ive never seen it load... or be installed.. and cant find the directory that it is in... i cant find it in the startup or registry... and i cant uninstall it from control panel. but for some reason, about 45 seconds after i reboot, it pops up an error message saying that gator can't connect. i looked under a kill process before and after this error message and i don't even see it running. if anyone can help me unfuck either one of these fuckups... i would be in debt to you forever. it is very irritating having to use aol. ![]() |

Seems like a problem with DNS servers. If you go to Tools -> Internet Options -> Connections, what do you see in there?
Also, click on "LAN Settings", are there any check-marks? Lastly, try to go to Start -> Run -> ping www.yahoo.com, does that return pings?

klik, thats fucked. so its only outgoing stuff on port 80 you have a problem with. have you tried uninstalling your adapter completely and reinstalling it? i know advice like that sucks but i would try it before moving on. in the meantime have you considered trying to use a proxy that uses another port?

Try to uncheck everything in "LAN Settings", press OK and restart IE.
